London Paralympics - Performance of Indian Players on 3rd September and schedule for 4th September

On day 5 of the London Paralympics, 3 Indian Para-Athletes were in action. First Indian player in action was the Long Jumper and India’s best medal prospect at the Paralympic Games, Jagseer Singh. Jagseer, who clinched the Gold Medal at the Kuwait International Open Athletics Championships in Jan 2012  with a leap of 6.55m, was unable to repeat the feat and just managed to get a  jump of 6.42m which could only give him the 6th position. Gold Medal of the event was won by Chinese athlete Liu Fuliang with a jump of 7.15m, Silver Medal was won by French athlete Arnaud with a jump of 7.13m and Bronze Medal went to Huseyn Hasanov of Azerbaijan who managed a jump of 6.53m.

Second Indian who was in action was the Swimmer Sharath Gayakwad in 50m freestyle S8 event. Swimming in lane number 8 and in a heat that saw a new World Record being set, Sharath completed the event with a personal best time of 28.98s. Though he  shaved off half a second from his Olympic Qualification Time, he missed out on qualifying for the finals. Swimming at his third event at the games, Sharath has set his new personal best records in all three events he has competed in so far, having finished the 100m butterfly event in 1:07.12s, 5 seconds quicker than his previous best and finishing his 100m breaststroke race 2 seconds faster than his qualification time. Sharath will compete in his final event – the 200m Individual Medley on the 5th of September.

INDIAN PLAYERS IN ACTION ON 4th SEPTEMBER

- Naresh Sharma in the 50m Rifle Prone- SH1 at 1.30 PM. The finals are at 4 PM.

- Sachin Chaudhary in the (82.5kg) Powerlifting at 4.30 PM.
