London Paralympics - Performance of Indian Players on 5th September and schedule for 6th September
On day 7 of the London Paralympics two Indian Athletes were in action. First Indian Athlete who competed today was the Shooter Naresh Kumar Sharma. Naresh, who failed to make it to the finals in his previous two events, was once again not in the best of the touch as he finished 19th out of the 26 shooters in Men’s 50m Rifle 3 positions SH1 event. Gold Medal of the event went to Sweden, Silver to Israel and Bronze to China. Naresh who is competing in his fifth Paralympics represented India in three separate events at London Paralympics — Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions SH1, Men’s 10m Air Rifle Standing SH1 and Mixed 50m Rifle Prone SH1 but was unable to make it to the finals in any of the three.
Second Indian who was in action on Day 7 was the Swimmer Sharath Gayakwad. Sharath, India’s only representative in the swimming event at the London Paralympics, ended his campaign with another personal best in the qualifying event for the 200m Individual Medley. Participating in his fourth and final race in London, the 21-year-old Sharath completed the distance in a time of 2:38.17, a good two seconds better than his previous best and Olympic qualification timing of 2:40.47, finishing last in heat 1 and 14th overall. Sharath has now set new personal best timings in the three other events – 100m butterfly, 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle – that he competed in at the Games. “A medal at the Games would have made me happier, but I am proud that I was able to achieve personal best timings in all the events, and I dedicate my performance in London to all my coaches,” the swimmer said.
