London Paralympics - Performance of Indian players on 6th September
On day 8 of the London Paralympics, one Indian athlete was in action. Amit Kumar Saroha, the last Indian remaining at the London Paralympics, participated in Men’s Discus Throw F51/52/53 event. This event is for the athletes with mild weakness in shoulders who can bend elbows normally, but have limited ability to straighten, can bend the wrists backward but not forward, have no movement in fingers and no trunk or leg function.
Amit finished 8th out of 12 athletes with a score of 674 points and a best throw of 9.89m. Saroha, who was paralysed when his car was struck by a speedy truck, was ranked No.3 in his discipline. Gold Medal of the event was won by Algerian Athlete Mohammad Berahal, Silver went to Aigars Apinis of Latvia and the Bronze was won by Mohammad Zemzemi of Tunisia.
With this event, India’s campaign at London Paralympic Games 2012 comes to an end with one silver from Girisha Nagarajegowda in High Jump event. India’s best performance at the Paralympics was in 2004 in Athens where India won 1 Gold and 1 Bronze. A total of 164 Nations and 4294 Athletes are competing in 503 events in 20 Sports at the London Paralympics. Para-Games will end on 9th September.
