London Paralympics - Performance of Indian Players on September 4 and Schedule for September 5
On day 6 of the London Paralympics, two Indian players were in action. After an outstanding Silver Medal winning performance by the High Jumper H.N Girisha on day 5 of the Para-Games, all eyes on day 6 were on the shooter Naresh Kumar Sharma. Naresh who failed to qualify for the finals of the 10m Air Rifle Standing event after shooting a disappointing score of 571/600 three days ago was once again unable to make it to the finals of Mixed R6-50m Rifle Prone-SH1 event. He finished at 36th position out of 48 shooters with a score of 575/600. Top 8 Shooters made it to the final of the event. UAE’s Shooter Abdulla Sultan with a score of 592 in Qualification and 102.8 in the final won the Gold medal, the Silver medal was won by the Spanish Shooter Juan Antonio Saavedra with a total score of 694.6(590+104.6) and Bronze went to the British Shooter Mathew Skelhon with a score of 693.2(589+104.2). Naresh has still one event left at the Games.
The second Indian athlete who was in action on day 6 of the Games was the Powerlifter Sachin Chaudhary. Sachin competed in 82.50 kg wt. category of the event. Sachin who won the silver medal in the APC Cup as well as at the IWAS World Games in 2009 was not in the best of the touch at the London Paralympics. Sachin with a lift of 187 kg finished 9th overall. Iranian Athlete with a lift of 237 kg won the Gold medal, the Chinese player Fei Xiao Gu bagged Silver with a lift of 228 kg and the bronze medal went to the athlete from Egypt with a lift of 227 kg.
