3 blockbuster matches for Bryan Danielson when he returns to AEW
At WrestleDream 2024, Bryan Danielson seemingly competed in his final match as a full-time professional wrestler. The American Dragon lost a hard-fought battle against Jon Moxley at the Washington pay-per-view, concluding his short yet memorable reign as the AEW World Champion.
Although Danielson may not be a regular feature on AEW television in the future, the audience has certainly not seen the last of The Planet's Champion. The American Dragon is likely to wrestle a few more matches for All Elite Wrestling, particularly at marquee events like All In and Forbidden Door.
Interestingly, several exciting opponents could be awaiting the re-emergence of Bryan Danielson. These stars would be eager to lock horns with the seasoned veteran before the latter permanently hangs up his boots. Although he has wrapped up his full-time career, there are a few names that Danielson would be eager to wrestle upon his eventual return.
In this article, let's look at three blockbuster matches for Bryan Danielson upon his return to All Elite Wrestling.
#3. Bryan Danielson vs. Kenny Omega II could take place
Soon after his AEW debut in the summer of 2021, Bryan Danielson battled Kenny Omega in arguably one of the greatest in-ring spectacles of all time. The 30-minute affair was filled with quality wrestling and exhilarating action.
The Leader of the Yes Movement tested the unbreakable spirit of Kenny Omega, who had put his AEW World Championship on the line in this contest. Ultimately, the match ended in a draw as neither of the stars could secure the victory before the 30-minute time limit.
While fans were disappointed about not getting a clear winner, the controversial outcome sowed the seeds for another contest between the two legendary wrestlers. It has been over three years since that bout, and Omega and Danielson are yet to engage in a rematch.
The two seasoned performers could have a tussle of supremacy in 2025. The Cleaner could finally reignite his feud with Bryan Danielson, once they both are fully fit to compete. After delivering an in-ring masterpiece in September 2021, it would be intriguing to see if the duo would be able to top their previous performance.
Considering the sheer magnitude of this encounter, it would be fitting that the Danielson vs. Omega rematch takes place at All In Texas next year.
#2. Bryan Danielson could finally lock horns with Malakai Black
Malakai Black is one of the most fearsome strikers of the modern era of pro wrestling. Since his arrival in AEW, Black has engaged in several quality matches. However, The Dutch Destroyer has yet to get an opportunity to compete against Bryan Danielson.
The former NXT Champion teased a feud against Danielson last year when he launched a sneak attack on The American Dragon on Collision. Unfortunately, an ill-timed injury put Danielson on the shelf, spoiling all the plans for his rivalry with The Dutch Destroyer.
Although Malakai Black could not have a full-fledged rivalry with Danielson in 2023, The Striking Man from Amsterdam could target the former AEW World Champion upon his eventual return.
Known for his exceptional striking abilities, Black could prove to be a quality opponent for the 43-year-old veteran, who has decimated countless opponents with his superior technical wrestling skills.
Renowned for his selfless attitude, it wouldn't be surprising if Bryan Danielson puts over The Dutch Destroyer when they eventually meet in the squared circle.
#1. The American Dragon could help elevate Jay White
Jay White is amongst the most reliable talents on the AEW roster. The Switchblade is a total package in the squared circle, possessing both exceptional in-ring and great mic skills.
The former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion recently made his return to the Tony Khan-led company as a babyface. At WrestleDream 2024, The Catalyst finally gained some momentum as a solo performer by defeating Hangman Adam Page.
If Tony Khan plans to elevate Jay White, he must book a feud against Bryan Danielson. Although they have locked horns against each other in tag team matches, the duo have yet to square off in singles competition. It would be a huge miss for All Elite Wrestling if Danielson does not get to face Jay White before he rides off into the sunset.
A despicable heel like White going up against a beloved babyface like Bryan Danielson would certainly make up for a compelling feud. Moreover, it would be an intriguing clash of two varying in-ring styles. If The American Dragon is due to wrestle only a few more matches, a bout against Jay White must get ticked off the list.
