3 titles that could change hands at AEW All In and 2 that likely won't
AEW All In 2024 is shaping up to be an exciting pay-per-view. Following last year's success, Tony Khan is adamant about delivering yet another memorable All In PPV, prompting him to put together a star-studded match card for the Wembley show.
Several title matches have been announced for All Elite Wrestling's biggest annual pay-per-view. While Swerve Strickland will defend his AEW World Championship in a Title vs. Career match against Bryan Danielson, Toni Storm will put her AEW Women's Championship on the line against her former protege, Mariah May. Moreover, the newly crowned AEW American Champion MJF will look to retain his title when he takes on the hometown hero, Will Ospreay.
Monumental events such as All In and WrestleMania are known for their groundbreaking title changes. While it is unlikely that all titleholders will lose the gold, some championships are inevitable to change hands at All In. In this article, let's look at three titles that could change hands at All In and two titles that may not.
#3. Titles that may change hands: AEW American Championship
On the historic 250th episode of Dynamite, Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) defeated Will Ospreay in an hour-long match to become the new International Champion. A few days later, The Salt of the Earth rebranded the newly won championship, turning it into the AEW American Championship.
As the 28-year-old star prepares to battle The Aerial Assassin at All In, it is highly unlikely that he would leave the Wembley Stadium with his championship. The management probably wanted to get some heat on MJF following his recent heel turn, prompting them to crown him as the new International Champion at the expense of Will Ospreay.
The Commonwealth Kingpin is arguably amongst the top three babyfaces in the Jacksonville-based promotion at the moment. Tony Khan has done an exceptional job in booking Ospreay till now, as he has only lost one match clean.
Even when MJF defeated Will Ospreay, he had to resort to using his ring to get the job done. When the two individuals eventually battle on Ospreay's home turf, it should be The Aerial Assassin who must come out the victor. As another crushing loss would destroy his momentum, a victory for The Aerial Assassin at All In seems like the only logical outcome.
Interestingly, The Commonwealth Kingpin could finish off the cocky champion in this match with a Tiger Driver 91, a move that Will Ospreay has hesitated to use in recent times.
#2. Titles that may not change hands: Kazuchika Okada's Continental Championship
In less than two weeks of his debut, Kazuchika Okada made history by dethroning Eddie Kingston as the AEW Continental Champion. The Rainmaker has held the prestigious mid-card championship since March, and it does not look like he will lose the title anytime soon.
Considering their verbal back-and-forth in the recently concluded Blood & Guts match, it is highly possible that it would be Kazuchika Okada and Hangman Page who will butt heads for the Continental Championship at All In. Having won every match as the Continental Champion, it seems like The Rainmaker will continue his winning streak at the Wembley Stadium.
At the moment, The Elite find themselves draped in gold. Following their recent loss against Team All Elite Wrestling, Tony Khan must not hand back-to-back defeats to the tyrant group. If The Elite wants to retain its dominance in the Jacksonville-based promotion, Kazuchika Okada must continue to be an invincible force.
Considering the lack of viable options to dethrone Okada, the company might consider keeping the title on the NJPW legend for a while.
#2. Titles that may change hands: AEW Women's Championship
Mariah May emerged victorious in the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament 2024 on the back of her impressive performances. Soon after her historic win, The Glamour showed her true colors by turning her back on her mentor, Toni Storm.
The Fighting Princess launched a remorseless assault on her former mentor, leaving her motionless in a pool of her own blood. Since then, Mariah May has been a part of a few promo segments, where she explained her motivation for attacking The Timeless Superstar.
Meanwhile, Toni Storm has stated that she is willing to perish if it means that she could make Mariah May pay for her heinous actions. Considering their genuine animosity, May vs. Storm has become one of the most anticipated bouts on the All In card.
Tony Khan might reward Mariah May with the AEW Women's Championship at the Wembley pay-per-view. Having held the title for a very long time, the loss against her former protege would provide a satisfying end to Toni Storm's historic title reign. It would be the start of a new era in the women's division, which has grown exponentially in the last two years.
Although she has been extremely dominant as the AEW Women's Champion, the hometown advantage for Mariah May may just be too much to handle for the Timeless Superstar.
#1. Titles that may not change hands: The Patriarchy's World Trios Championships
The Patriarchy recently tasted their first success as a unit, when they became the new AEW World Trios Champions on Collision. The trio took down The Bang Bang Gang to accomplish this memorable feat.
While it has only been a few days since The Patriarchy's title victory, the Trios division in the Jacksonville-based promotion already feels rejuvenated. After elevating the prestige of the TNT Championship, Christian Cage has now set his sights on uplifting the value of the World Trios Championships.
From the House of Black to the Bang Bang Gang, multiple factions are gunning for the Trios Titles, hinting at the healthy state of the Trios division.
While The Patriarchy may have to face multiple teams at All In, their chances of retaining their titles are very high. Christian Cage could do wonders for the Trios division if given a long reign with the AEW World Trios Championships. Therefore, Tony Khan may consider keeping the titles with Captain Charisma's group, allowing them to shape the Trios division in their own vision.
It would be a disappointing booking outcome if The Patriarchy lost their titles so soon at All In, a decision that Tony Khan must strictly refrain from.
#1. Titles that may change hands: AEW World Championship
Swerve Strickland defeated Samoa Joe at AEW Dynasty 2024 to become the new AEW World Champion. What many predicted to be a transitional reign has ended up being one of the best AEW World Championship reigns of all time.
Since becoming the world champion, The Killshot has emerged as the face of All Elite Wrestling. In the last few months, Strickland has cemented himself as a fighting champion by taking down the likes of Will Ospreay, Christian Cage, and Claudio Castagnoli. Having achieved remarkable success as a champion, the time has now come for The Killshot to pass the baton to a veteran.
The veteran in question here is Bryan Danielson, who is set to battle Swerve for the AEW World Championship at All In. On the latest episode of Dynamite, The American Dragon announced that he would never wrestle again if he failed to take the AEW World Title off the 33-year-old at All In.
In other words, the Swerve vs. Danielson bout at All In has now become a Title vs. Career match. The stipulation alone guarantees that Bryan Danielson will capture the elusive world championship in his last outing as a full-time performer. Danielson's victory will be a feel-good moment for the Wembley crowd, who will erupt with joy the moment he secures a three count.
It would be the most satisfying conclusion to the AEW World Championship match at All In. It would fulfill the fans' desire to see Danielson as AEW World Champion, while also protecting Swerve Strickland in defeat.
