4 AEW stars who could turn heel before the end of 2024
AEW has had a bittersweet 2024 so far. The company has witnessed several amazing moments throughout the year, however, they have also had their share of mishaps. Many of their top names are sidelined due to injury. Furthermore, their exact return date remains unknown.
Some of the best moments of 2024 are Sting's epic retirement, Nigel McGuinness' glorious in-ring return, Bryan Danielson's All In triumph, and more. However, Jon Moxley turning heel by attacking Danielson has to be one of the most shocking wrestling moments of the year. Currently, the promotion has a perfect balance of heels and faces. The holder of their top prize, Bryan Danielson, is a face and this is undoubtedly a good booking decision. He is naturally loveable and fans find it hard to boo him. Furthermore, he does not have a reason to turn heel.
Interestingly, there are a few wrestlers who have reasons to turn heel, and possibly will by the end of this year. Here are a few of them.
#4. Wheeler Yuta has the potential to be AEW's most despised heel
Wheeler Yuta is going through a rough patch. At All Out, after witnessing Jon Moxley choking his mentor with a plastic bag, he is simply not the same man anymore. He feels miserable. From his demeanor, he certainly feels immense guilt for not being able to protect his father figure. Moxley and Co. are pressuring him to side with them, but he has not made up his mind yet.
Maybe, Yuta should join the dark side after all. He is one of the most talented AEW stars, however, it appears like his peers get to shine more than him. The former ROH Pure Champion could become the company's most hated heel by turning on Danielson. This moment would not just be shocking, but, might open opportunities for him to hold a singles title in the company.
#3. Britt Baker
Britt Baker found herself in a controversy lately. She had a backstage argument with AEW star MJF and his girlfriend, Alicia Atout, for which she reportedly got fined and suspended. She is currently a face, however, a few years ago, she was a ruthless heel. It would make perfect sense for Tony Khan to turn her heel once again because she is a natural heat magnet.
Baker faced Mercedes Moné for the AEW TBS Championship at All In 2024, however, she could not get the job done.
#2. Will Ospreay
At the Dynamite fifth anniversary show, Will Ospreay is going to lock horns with longtime rival and new AEW signee, Ricochet, for the AEW International Championship. The two men have battled multiple times in the past, and every match delivered.
Both stars are faces at the time of writing. However, it will be interesting to see one of them go into the bout as a heel. Furthermore, the former WWE star will need fan support at this stage of his career, so he must remain a face.
#1. Kyle O'Reilly
The Conglomeration consists of leader, Mark Briscoe and Kyle O'Reilly, Orange Cassidy, Tomohiro Ishii, & Willow Nightingale. Even though they are a very new stable, they are already over with fans. Although fans are enjoying his role in this faction's growth, they believe that he belongs with the Undisputed Kingdom.
Tony Khan has a great opportunity to build a story of trust and betrayal. Since members of The Conglomeration are so tightly knit, it will be painful to see O'Reilly turn heel on them. Furthermore, this might set up O'Reilly vs. Briscoe in the future, which is undoubtedly a money match.
