4 Dream John Cena matches outside WWE we may never get to see

The 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena has achieved almost everything in his Hall of Fame-worthy wrestling career. He was the face of the world's biggest wrestling promotion in his prime for the longest time. Cena also had the opportunity to wrestle and defeat a number of wrestling legends throughout his career.

However, with Cena's recent announcement regarding his retirement tour, fans may never get to witness some of the dream matches that they have been anticipating for the longest time. Following are some of Cena's dream matches outside WWE that fans may never see now:

#4 John Cena vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi

While John Cena was rising in the ranks as the face of the WWE during his prime, Hiroshi Tanahashi was the top guy on the other side of the spectrum in New Japan Pro Wrestling. The two legends had contrasting careers but unfortunately never crossed paths.

Therefore, a showdown between the 16-time WWE Champion and the eight-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion would definitely be something special. However, with both legends closing in on their retirement, the dream match may never happen.

#3. Samoa Joe

The former AEW World Champion Samoa Joe was one of the top stars in TNA while John Cena was the face of the WWE. The Stamford-based promotion also missed a huge opportunity to book a singles match between Cena and Joe while they were on the WWE roster at the same time years ago.

Meanwhile, Samoa Joe is one of the top stars in AEW, whereas, Cena is set to retire from in-ring competition by the end of 2025. Hence, fans may never get to see the anticipated dream match between Cena and Joe.

#2. The Franchise Player vs. The Rainmaker

Kazuchika Okada is currently signed with AEW but is known for his time in New Japan Pro Wrestling. The former multiple-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion was a top guy in the Japanese promotion for many years winning many accolades. Many fans also considered Okada as the "John Cena" of NJPW.

Therefore, a match between Cena and Okada would have been very well-received by global wrestling fans. However, Okada chose to sign with AEW instead of WWE earlier this year and Cena is set for his retirement next year. So the dream match is highly unlikely to happen as things currently stand.

#1. John Cena vs. MJF would've been an instant classic

The former AEW World Champion, Maxwell Jacob Friedman is one of the biggest homegrown stars in Tony Khan's promotion. Furthermore, Max is one of the greatest heels in wrestling today. Therefore, a feud between a Super Babyface John Cena and a despicable heel MJF would've done wonders.

However, MJF is destined to stay with AEW for a few more years and Cena recently announced that he will retire after the year 2025. Hence, a dream feud between The Leader of Cenation and The Devil is unlikely to take place.
