4 reasons why Jon Moxley should end his career in WWE

Jon Moxley is one of the most decorated stars to have ever stepped foot into an AEW ring. The Purveyor of Violence has been with the Jacksonville-based promotion since day one, having debuted at the inaugural Double or Nothing pay-per-view in May 2019.

Before carving out a legendary career in All Elite Wrestling, Moxley had already been a well-recognized figure in WWE. The erstwhile Lunatic Fringe arrived on the main roster in November 2012 and stayed with the Stamford-based promotion for seven years.

The Ace of AEW found remarkable success in WWE, becoming one of the few individuals to become Grand Slam Champions. After a memorable stint under the Vince McMahon-led regime, Moxley parted ways with the Stamford-based company in 2019 due to creative differences.

Despite being one of the faces of AEW, Jon Moxley continues to have a loyal fanbase in WWE. While it is unlikely that Moxley will leave AEW anytime soon, certain factors suggest he should return to the Stamford-based promotion when he approaches the final stage of his wrestling career.

In this article, let's look at four reasons why Jon Moxley should end his career in WWE:

#4. Jon Moxley would enjoy a proper world title reign under Triple H

Jon Moxley captured the Money in the Bank briefcase at the namesake PLE in 2016. The Purveyor of Violence scripted history the very same night by successfully cashing in his contract on Seth Rollins to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Unfortunately, Moxley's reign did not last long, as he dropped the title to AJ Styles at Backlash 2016, ending his title run at a mere 84 days. Throughout his reign, the former Shield member rarely felt like a mainstay in the World Title picture.

The creative team did not do much to elevate Moxley's character or have him feature in feuds with top superstars. The 39-year-old star was often thrust into rivalries in which he was not even the center of attention.

Aside from retaining his title in a high-stakes Shield Triple Threat, nothing of substance took place when the erstwhile Lunatic Fringe held the prestigious championship. In his five-year-long stint with All Elite Wrestling, Jon Moxley has proved that he could be a reliable world champion for any top promotion.

A return to WWE could lead to a well-deserved reign at the top for Moxley. The Ace of AEW could receive a huge push under Triple H, who would be significantly more open to his creative ideas than Vince McMahon.

Although Vince did not see The Death Rider as a reliable main event talent, The Cerebral Assassin might not make the same mistake with The Ace of AEW. After conquering multiple wrestling promotions around the world, Moxley could settle his unfinished business in WWE by having a lengthy world championship reign.

#3. The Shield Triple Threat must happen at WrestleMania

Jon Moxley's WWE departure was touted by many as the end of The Shield saga. Surprisingly, the iconic faction continues to be a relevant entity in the pro wrestling industry in 2024.

In January 2022, Seth Rollins reignited his singles rivalry with Roman Reigns. Since then, the former 'brothers' have featured in multiple in-ring segments and have also made several references to Jon Moxley. At WrestleMania 40, The Architect emerged as a shield for Cody Rhodes, ultimately becoming the reason for the demise of the Original Tribal Chief's historic reign as Undisputed WWE Champion.

Reigns and Rollins are destined to cross paths again at some point. However, things would be a lot more intriguing if Jon Moxley re-enters the equation.

A Triple Threat Match between Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and the erstwhile Dean Ambrose is arguably the biggest match that can sell out a modern-day WrestleMania event. The three stars have defined the modern era of pro wrestling, as multiple storylines across several promotions find a direct connection to The Shield.

It would be one of the biggest injustices to wrestling fans if The Shield trio did not face each other at The Showcase of The Immortals. The Purveyor of Violence must return to the Sports Entertainment juggernaut down the line to ensure that fans get to see the conclusion to The Shield saga.

#2. WWE's massive fanbase is still waiting for the return of the former Lunatic Fringe

During his time in WWE, Jon Moxley captivated the audience with his impressive performances. The 39-year-old developed an authentic connection with the WWE fanbase over time, and this continues to last to this date.

It has been five years since Jon Moxley was last seen in WWE. However, many fans have not given up on the possibility of Moxley competing in the global juggernaut again.

The Purveyor of Violence would not want to disappoint the WWE Universe, which gave him his deserved recognition as a reliable performer. While Moxley might not leave AEW for the next few years, he could possibly return to the Stamford-based company for one final run in the future.

Moxley's comeback would be a reward for his admirers, who had been waiting for him to show up in the Sports Entertainment juggernaut again. Having achieved almost everything in All Elite Wrestling, The Death Riders leader could return to his former company to test himself against several new opponents.

#1. Jon Moxley must return to WWE to reunite The Shield

As exciting as it would be to witness a Triple Threat Match between the former members of The Shield, a potential reunion of the iconic faction would be an even bigger occurrence for wrestling fans. The three superstars are no longer the same performers as they were in 2014, as they have gone on to earn legendary status in the last five years.

Jon Moxley's success in promotions like AEW and NJPW has helped him step out of the shadow of his former stablemates. If Moxley agrees to reunite The Shield in WWE, he would be able to cap off his illustrious wrestling career in a historic way.

The possibility of working alongside his former Shield brothers again could be enough to bring back The Purveyor of Violence to the Stamford-based promotion. Coincidentally, Moxley's career would always be considered incomplete if he did not conclude his Shield arc.
