48-year-old former world champion to quit AEW because of Bryan Danielson? Exploring potential twist
Bryan Danielson is regarded as one of the all-time greats in the wrestling industry. He made a huge name in WWE and continues growing his legacy in AEW. However, before his break in the global sports entertainment juggernaut, he wrestled in ROH.
The AEW World Champion had many memorable matches in ROH, but one of the feuds that everyone remembers was with Nigel McGuinness. The 48-year-old retired from in-ring action in 2011 and joined commentary. Interestingly, he never stopped despising the American Dragon. After the former ROH World Champion came out of retirement at All In London, he decided to call out Bryan Danielson when he was medically unfit to wrestle.
On the recent edition of Dynamite, Jon Moxley convinced Darby Allin that the AEW World Champion would be absent at the Grand Slam. That's when Nigel talked to Tony Khan and made the match with Bryan official. Nevertheless, the contest is still not guaranteed, as it will only happen if Bryan Danielson is cleared to wrestle following the brutal attack at All Out. If the latter doesn't show up at the event, Nigel could trick him by quitting in kayfabe, which would lure the AEW World Champion to get ready for the bout in the future.
Wheeler Yuta on Bryan Danielson's situation
Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli turned on the American Dragon at All Out while Wheeler Yuta was held in a corner by PAC. Bryan needed medical attention after Moxley suffocated him with a plastic bag.
While speaking in a backstage interview, Yuta claimed he would not share information about his status out of respect for Bryan Danielson's family.
“Out of respect for him and Brie and the kids, I don't wanna share too much but he is doing the best that he can. I don't have much of an update, but he is doing the best he can, and I haven't really talked to any of the other guys," he said.
It will be interesting to see if the AEW World Champion will appear on Grand Slam: Dynamite.
