5 predictions for AEW Grand Slam 2024
AEW Grand Slam is scheduled to take place on September 25, 2024, in Queens, New York. For now, only one match has been announced for the two-part television special, i.e., the singles match for the AEW World Championship between Bryan Danielson and Darby Allin.
AEW will announce the rest of the matches for Grand Slam 2024 in the coming weeks. Fans are expecting the event to be a riveting affair with several important championships to be on the line. It is believed that there will be a few debuts as well as some unexpected occurrences, that will change the course of the company's future.
Here are five predictions for AEW Grand Slam 2024. While the below points are only speculations, in the world of professional wrestling nothing is impossible.
#5. Ricochet and Will Ospreay will battle for the AEW International Championship at Grand Slam 2024
Long-time fans of AEW and the independent wrestling circuit are aware of the friendly rivalry between current International Champion Will Ospreay and new All Elite signing, Ricochet. Before the latter joined the WWE in 2018, he and "The Assassin" locked horns multiple times. Furthermore, all their bouts are highly rated.
The former WWE Intercontinental Champion kept a close eye on the championship match between Ospreay and PAC at All Out. Ospreay defended his title successfully, however, the two high-flyers will certainly battle soon. This could even take place as early as this month, at Grand Slam 2024.
#4. The Hurt Syndicate will make their AEW debut
In WWE, The Hurt Business wreaked havoc from the moment they formed. Their members consisted of juggernauts such as Bobby Lashley, MVP, Sheldon Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander. Currently, only Alexander is still signed to the Stamford-based company, while the rest are free agents.
Lashley, MVP, and Benjamin are heavily rumored to join All Elite Wrestling, but this time under the name "The Hurt Syndicate." This name has also reportedly been trademarked by Totally Harmless Concept LLC. Several fans speculate that the trio will make an anticipated appearance at Grand Slam.
#3. Darby Allin will reject Jon Moxley's offer to join the Blackpool Combat Club
At All Out, after Bryan Danielson retained his championship, his stablemates Jon Moxley, PAC, and Claudio Castagnoli attacked him. It appears like the leader of the "Yes!" movement isn't associated with the Blackpool Combat Club anymore. This means during his AEW World Championship match against Darby Allin at Grand Slam, he needs to keep an eye out for the snakes.
For the past few weeks, the former Lunatic fringe has been trying to get a hold of the Daredevil. Fans believe that the former WWE star wants to ally with the former TNT champion. The Blackpool Combat Club might try to interfere in the above-mentioned match and cost Danielson this title. However, knowing Allin, he will probably side with the champion and reject Moxley's offer.
#2 and #1. Willow Nightingale or Kris Statlander will challenge for the AEW Women's World Championship - Toni Storm will return
Mariah May won the AEW Women's World Championship by defeating Toni Storm at All In. She recently defended it against Nyla Rose and it makes sense for her to defend it once again at Grand Slam. Her challenger should be either Kris Statlander or Willow Nightingale because both women are undoubtedly over, and two of the best in the roster.
We also believe that May will retain her title, however, after the match, former champion Toni Storm will make her AEW return. The two have unfinished business and a big money match between them is imminent.
