5 surprises Tony Khan could pull off on AEW Dynamite this week
The upcoming edition of AEW Dynamite is set to be one of the company's most important shows in a long time. The Owen Hart Foundation Tournament will officially conclude on the show, with two high-stakes finals slated to take place on the Wednesday Night Show.
In the men's bracket, Hangman Adam Page will take on Bryan Danielson in an intense rematch, with Jeff Jarrett serving as the official enforcer. Meanwhile, Mariah May will battle against Willow Nightingale in the finals of the women's bracket, with the winner securing herself a title shot against Toni Storm.
Besides the tournament finals, a couple of other exciting matchups have also been advertised for Dynamite. With the AEW Dynamite: Blood & Guts edition scheduled to take place in two weeks, tensions are about to boil over further between Team AEW and The Elite.
In this article, let's look at five surprises Tony Khan could pull off on the upcoming edition of Dynamite:
#5. The Elite costs Hangman Adam Page his match against Bryan Danielson
Following his win against Jeff Jarrett on last week's Dynamite, Hangman Page was greeted by The Young Bucks backstage. As The Bucks tried to manipulate The Cowboy into joining them, an enraged Hangman Page grabbed Matt Jackson by his coat, refusing to do business with his former stablemates.
The New Elite would not let go of Hangman disrespecting them on Dynamite. The Anxious Millennial Cowboy is adamant about facing Swerve Strickland at All In 2024, for which he desperately needs a win in the Owen Hart Cup Finals. Unfortunately, Page's dreams could come crashing down this week, courtesy of The New Elite.
The Young Bucks could punish The Hanger for his actions by interfering in his match against Bryan Danielson. The tyrant faction could launch a sneak attack on Hangman behind Jeff Jarrett's back, allowing Danielson to take advantage.
The development would allow The American Dragon to fulfill his World Title desires at All In while giving Hangman Page a fresh new direction as a babyface.
#4. The Don Callis Family attacks Will Ospreay
Will Ospreay is set to feature in a promo segment on Dynamite this week. After failing to capture the AEW World Title at Forbidden Door, the reigning International Champion will presumably give fans a sneak peek into his plans for All In 2024. The Aerial Assassin would also like to address MJF's assault on Daniel Garcia, who has seemingly set his sights on the AEW International Champion.
Don Callis could interrupt his former client during this segment. Will Ospreay officially cut ties with The Don Callis Family last week, much to the dislike of the wicked manager. Although Callis didn't express his frustrations last week, he could show his true colors to Ospreay on the upcoming Dynamite.
Following an argument with his former manager, the Commonwealth Kingpin could be blindsided by the other members of The Don Callis Family. This could help set up a rematch between Will Ospreay and Konosuke Takeshita, who fans desperately want to see as the next International Champion.
#3. Sammy Guevara helps Chris Jericho beat Samoa Joe
Chris Jericho will battle Samoa Joe in a Stampede Street Fight on this week's Dynamite. The tensions are at an all-time high between the two stars, and they will look to settle their scores this Wednesday night.
While The Learning Tree does have Big Bill by his side, he still finds himself outnumbered by the trio of Joe, Hook, and Katsuyori Shibata. However, Jericho could get the upper hand in this match, courtesy of a returning Sammy Guevara.
Mr. Money Worth could take out The Destroyer in this contest, allowing the FTW Champion to grab the victory against his arch-rival.
Guevara was handed an indefinite suspension from AEW in February 2024. The Spanish God had failed to follow the "No Concussion" protocol in his match against Jeff Hardy, which led to disciplinary action against him.
Now that Guevara is ready to return, he could realign himself with his former mentor on the latest Dynamite episode. With Bryan Keith sidelined with an injury, The Spanish God could fill in the role of Chris Jericho's disciple.
#2. Toni Storm turns on Mariah May
Mariah May will find herself in the fight of her life when she meets Willow Nightingale in the finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. The Glamour is likely to emerge victorious in this contest, which would bring her on a collision course with Toni Storm at All In.
Following May's historic victory, Storm could emerge to embrace her student in the middle of the ring. However, the celebrations could be cut short abruptly when The Timeless star takes out The Fighting Princess in front of the Calgary crowd.
If The Glamour secures herself a title shot at All In, Toni Storm is bound to feel threatened. As close as they are, the AEW Women's Champion would not appreciate May stealing her spotlight at AEW's biggest annual pay-per-view.
The shocking heel turn will certainly add spice to their upcoming rivalry. It would also set up Mariah May as a sympathetic babyface who could eventually take down Timeless Toni Storm at Wembley Stadium in August.
#1. Ricky Starks joins Team AEW for Blood & Guts
One of the segments on this week's Dynamite will see Swerve Strickland discussing his future plans with the fans. Following a successful title defense against Will Ospreay, The Killshot has now set his sights on the upcoming AEW Dynamite: Blood & Guts special event.
The New Elite has also developed issues with the reigning AEW World Champion of late. A few weeks ago, Strickland turned down The Young Bucks' offer to join their team at Blood & Guts, which has now brought him on a collision course with the villainous group. As a result, Swerve could find himself targeted by The Elite on Wednesday night.
However, a returning Ricky Starks could help the AEW World Champion fend off the wicked faction on this week's Dynamite. Entering the AEW vs. The Elite rivalry would set up a perfect comeback for The Absolute One, who has been away from television since March 2024. It would also infuse some fresh blood into the babyface team, which has majorly featured Bryan Danielson and FTR.
A return to his babyface roots could kick off Starks' ascension to the top of the card. Going up against The Elite will further legitimize The Absolute One as a main event talent, possibly earning him a title shot in the future.
