5 things Tony Khan has planned against WWE Saturday Night's Main Event

WWE will present the 37th edition of Saturday Night's Main Event on December 14, the same day AEW will air this week's edition of its televised program, Collision. The two leading American pro-wrestling promotions have gone head-to-head a few times lately, with the sports entertainment juggernaut coming out on top last month when WWE NXT went against Dynamite.

Considering WWE's recent surge in popularity under Triple H's creative helm, the revived Saturday Night's Main Event is likely going to be booked in memorable fashion. However, Tony Khan and company are seemingly set to put on a compelling show this weekend as well, as Collision: Winter is Coming was taped in the Chaifetz Arena a couple of days ago.

Let us take a look at available spoilers for AEW's Saturday-night show and find out what TK has planned to battle WWE's major event that very day.

Warning: Heavy spoilers ahead for the upcoming episode of AEW Collision: Winter is Coming.

#1. Jamie Hayter loses out on Wrestle Dynasty bout; Julia Hart returns to AEW

This week on Collision, Jamie Hayter locked horns with Willow Nightingale in the finals of AEW's Wrestle Dynasty International Women's Cup qualifier tournament. The Babe with The Power defeated the former All Elite Women's World Champion to advance to the Tokyo Dome cross-promotional event set for January 2025.

After the match, Hayter was reportedly attacked by the returning Julia Hart. The Princess of The Black Throne has been stalking the Englishwoman for several weeks now, interrupting her backstage interviews with broadcasts of her own bizarre cinematic segments, and even teasing her comeback after Hayter's win over Queen Aminata last month.

Hart assaulting Hayter on Collision could thus set up a major first-time bout between the two, perhaps for Worlds End 2024.

#2. Ex- WWE star Toni Storm wrestles, and possibly launches a new character arc

This week on Dynamite: Winter is Coming, Mariah May defeated Mina Shirakawa to retain her AEW Women's World Title. The Glamour's celebration would be cut short, however, by the shocking return of Toni Storm. The former WWE superstar, shedding her acclaimed Timeless persona, came out to a raucous ovation in her classic gear and to her original music.

Storm made her in-ring return on Rampage this week, a booking choice that has reportedly received a mixed reception backstage. Interestingly, the 29-year-old star also competed in this week's Collision tapings, defeating Shazza McKenzie one-on-one. Interestingly, spoilers note that after the bout, Storm took up a mic to announce that she was officially All Elite.

The Illustrious One, of course, has been signed with AEW since 2022, which raises the possibility that Storm's current character may be disregarding her run in the promotion so far, or that her Timeless persona was merely one among many potential gimmicks.

#3. New number one contenders for the World Tag Team Titles decided; ex-WWE champion teases heel turn

Tensions have been brewing in the group dynamics of Top Flight, Lio Rush, Action Andretti, and Leila Grey for several weeks. The cracks showed more prominently when Dante and Darius Martin rebuked The Sight To See and the former WWE Cruiserweight Champion for demanding an AEW World Tag Team Title shot from Private Party without having earned the opportunity as a tag team with multiple wins.

Their confrontation on Dynamite: Winter is Coming led to Top Flight taking on Rush and Andretti in a number one contender's bout on Collision. The match supposedly ended in controversial fashion, with Action scoring the pin on Darius after Rush took out Dante as well as Leila Grey with a dive.

Considering their newfound willingness to go to any lengths for victory, it remains to be seen if Rush and Andretti will be able to dethrone Zay and Quen.

#4. Continental Classic bout: Kazuchika Okada returns to form

Defending Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada has met with a couple of stumbling blocks in his 2024 Continental Classic journey so far. The Rainmaker started his campaign by wrestling Daniel Garcia to a draw. He beat Mark Briscoe in his following match, but suffered an upset loss to up-and-comer Kyle Fletcher last week.

The former NJPW star returned to winning ways on Collision this week with a victory over The Beast Mortos. This earned Okada three more points, which brings his cumulative points in the Blue League block to seven.

#5. Continental Classic bout: Mark Briscoe defeats block topper

Collision: Winter is Coming staged a second Continental Classic 2024 Blue League match, in which Kyle Fletcher squared off against Mark Briscoe. With nine points so far, The Protostar stood at the top of his block, coming off of a huge win over Kazuchika Okada.

However, Briscoe is evidently mounting a comeback of his own in the C2, as he defeated the Don Callis Family member on Collision this week, raising his total points to six. The former ROH World Champion could well be on his way to becoming the next AEW Continental Champion at Worlds End 2024.
