51-year-old star to replace Bobby Lashley at the last minute at AEW Full Gear 2024? Analyzing the chances
After MVP and Shelton Benjamin debuted in AEW, there was a lot of speculation that Bobby Lashley could also join them marking the beginning of the Hurt Syndicate in the promotion. These rumors turned out to be true on the October 30 edition of Dynamite.
After Swerve Strickland defeated Shelton Benjamin, MVP made a phone call to Lashley who then came out and confronted Swerve. The All-Mighty attacked the former AEW World Champion and laid him out in the ring. Following this assault, the 48-year-old is set to make his in-ring debut in the company at AEW Full Gear against Strickland. However, this match might be in jeopardy.
Lashley has been training hard in the gym for his debut. Montel Vontavious Porter was with him during a recent training session. During an interaction with a fan on social media, the former United States Champion admitted that Lashley had still not recovered 100 percent from the surgery he had earlier this year. This could jeopardize his match, especially if he is facing someone as dangerous as Swerve Strickland.
Hence, it would make perfect sense for someone like MVP to replace The All-Mighty for this match. While Shelton Benjamin is another option, this wouldn't make the most sense since he already lost to Strickland, making their bout less enticing right now. The only option left would be for the 51-year-old to step in for his stablemate, while Lashley takes the time to get back to full fitness.
This would also be the perfect heel move to pull a swerve on the fans at the last minute and have Montel Vontavious Porter compete instead of Lashley. Instead of playing the injury angle, the former United States Champion could get on the mic and tell fans that they have to wait to see someone like Bobby Lashley compete and tonight won't be the night. It would be the perfect way for the Hurt Syndicate to get some heat from the fans in attendance.
Tommy Carlucci commented on Bobby Lashley's WWE exit
Bobby Lashley's second run in WWE started off in fine fashion. He was booked prominently and even won the WWE Championship. However, as leadership changed, so did the All Mighty's bookings in the company.
The former WWE Champion soon found himself a victim of questionable booking decisions that would ultimately contribute to his departure from the company. Speaking on The Coach and Bro Show, Tommy Carlucci was frustrated that WWE let someone like Lashley go.
"We all know Bobby Lashley, one of things that held him back in WWE was he wasn't a great promo cutter. But look at guy. You look at him and you look at Sami Zayn, and you're telling me this guy can't be champion in WWE? Are you kidding me? It's a joke, a freaking joke," Carlucci said.
It will be interesting to see if Bobby Lashley will be able to compete at AEW Full Gear 2024 on November 23.
