7-time WWE Champion; top heel - 3 AEW stars who could retire Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho is undoubtedly a wrestling legend. He has been signed to AEW since the inception of the company. Furthermore, he has wrestled in numerous promotions across the world. He is best known for his time in the WWE, where he won the World Heavyweight Championship thrice and the WWE Intercontinental Championship a staggering nine times.
Jericho is currently 53 years old. Even though he is a full-time competitor, time is simply not on his side. His in-ring career won't last for long and after he retires, fans are truly going to miss him. Recent reports suggest that his current contract with the Tony Khan-led company will expire in 2025. It is not known if Y2J will be offered a new deal or not. But retiring at this point in his career would not be a bad idea.
Jericho has achieved numerous feats in the world of professional wrestling. Not only has he main evented WrestleMania, but he was the inaugural AEW World Champion. He deserves to grand retirement and Tony Khan will probably book his last match against a worthy opponent.
Here are three AEW stars who could retire Chris Jericho.
#3. Sammy Guevara (He was a member of Chris Jericho's Inner Circle)
The Inner Circle was one of AEW's earliest factions. Its original members consisted of Chris Jericho (leader), Sammy Guevara, Santana and Ortiz, and Jake Hager. This faction was quite successful because, during its existence, Jericho became the AEW World Champion and Guevara won the AEW TNT Championship twice.
Jericho and Guevara reportedly have a strong friendship. They have teamed up in the past and it will make sense if The Spanish God is the one to retire him. This is what the 31-year-old once said about the veteran's lengthy career:
"He does it because he likes it or loves it, and the fact that he's still doing it 33 years is a testament to him because the motivation to keep going and doing this is hard," said Guevara. [H/T: WrestlingInc]
#3. Former AEW World Champion MJF
MJF was one of Chris Jericho's arch-rivals in AEW. Just like the 53-year-old, The Slat of the Earth is a gifted wrestler with immense skills on the microphone. Furthermore, over the years, many fans and people associated with the business have compared the two.
It will make sense for MJF to be the person to retire Y2J. The 28-year-old is a top heel. Additionally, just like Guevara, he too was once a part of The Inner Circle. His time in the stable was short-lived, but he and the former WWE Intercontinental Champions had several memorable moments.
#1. The current AEW World Champion Jon Moxley
Jon Moxley is having one of the best runs in his career. Earlier this month, he defeated Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream and captured the AEW World Title for the fourth time in his career. Furthermore, after the showdown, Mox and The Blackpool Combat Club brutalized The American Dragon so severely that he was taken out of the arena in a stretcher.
If Moxley is the one to retire Chris Jericho similarly, it will make perfect sense for storyline purposes. Additionally, they have a history because they have worked several times in the past. Even when they both were signed to the WWE, where Mox was known as Dean Ambrose.
