AEW to convince loyal "WWE girl" to sign for a game-changing Mercedes Mone match? Exploring the chances
Before becoming a member of the All Elite Wrestling roster, Mercedes Mone was a very popular star in WWE, where she performed under the ring name Sasha Banks. She left the Stamford-based company in 2022 and ventured into the Japanese wrestling scene prior to joining the Jacksonville-based promotion in March 2024.
During her time in WWE, she squared off against many prominent wrestlers. However, she never crossed paths with Trish Stratus. In an interview, Stratus expressed her desire to work with Mone. While speaking to The Takedown on SI, she was again asked about the possibility of locking horns with The CEO.
The legend replied that the high-profile match could only take place if the former WWE star returned to the Triple H-led company. Stratus mentioned that she wouldn't perform outside of World Wrestling Entertainment because of her loyalty to the promotion.
"I really am a WWE girl all the way, I really am. You never know. Who knows? There’s still so much more life to be had," the WWE Hall of Famer said.
Going by Trish Stratus' statement, it is highly unlikely that fans would see the Canadian veteran face off against Mercedes Mone in an AEW ring. Regardless of the promotion, a potential match between Stratus and Mone would be a game-changer.
WWE legend claims Mercedes Mone's AEW run has been a disaster
Mercedes Mone is a double champion. She currently holds the AEW TBS Championship and NJPW Strong Women's Title. The former Sasha Banks has had quite a run in the company since her arrival, but Eric Bischoff thinks that her stint has been a disaster.
"She was a massive star in WWE, massive, and she came to AEW and it's been an unmitigated disaster because of her creative and because Tony [Khan] doesn't know how to produce her," said Easy E.
The WCW veteran added that Tony Khan didn't know how to portray Mercedes Mone as a star. Bischoff felt WWE highlighted Mone's strengths and hid her weaknesses, which was why she was once among the biggest female stars in the company.
