AEW Full Gear match might be at risk of cancellation; Exploring potential impact
A blockbuster match at Full Gear might not happen on the show for many reasons. The contest being discussed is between two goliaths: Bobby Lashley and Swerve Strickland.
The former AEW World Champion has been fed up with the Hurt Syndicate. First, MVP pestered Swerve to become his client. When the latter declined, he had to face Shelton Benjamin at Fright Night Dynamite. The All Mighty made his debut on that show and confronted the Realest star. Swerve and his manager, Prince Nana, took a beating from the Hurt Syndicate.
The next week, Swerve Strickland issued a challenge to the former WWE Champion to face him at the Full Gear pay-per-view, which was immediately accepted by MVP. Fans are very excited about this battle as the face of the franchise will be facing his biggest challenge yet. However, AEW could announce bad news ahead of Full Gear about the match.
Shocking revelations have been made over the last few days. Last week, MVP stated that Bobby Lashley isn't fully fit following surgery he sustained in May 2024. Not a long time ago, Swerve Strickland posted a picture of an x-ray of his damaged shoulder. He claimed that the injury happened because of The Hurt Syndicate's assault.
Now that both the stars are unfit. There is a huge possibility of the match being scrapped. Let's take a look at some of the things that might happen because of the canceled match.
#3. The match needs more build-up
A massive match like Swerve Strickland and Bobby Lashley should have a huge story. The two men haven't interacted as they should with each other. The stars are scheduled to face each other after the confrontation at Fright Night Dynamite, which will be less than a month.
The duo can convey a much better story if they face each other at the Worlds End pay-per-view. The match could even headline the event with proper build-up.
#2. Shelton Benjamin could face Swerve Strickland's former ally
After the original match is canceled, the Standard of Excellence could grab the opportunity to showcase dominance and call out anybody at Full Gear. The challenge could be accepted by the returning Keith Lee. The latter and Swerve Strickland are former tag team partners. He has been absent since December 2023.
Fans would get a huge match in return for the scrapped contest. However, no current update on Keith Lee's recovery status is known.
#1. Two stars could have a war of words at Full gear
Both stars lacked a more detailed build-up in the past weeks. While The Hurt Syndicate is constantly featured on Dynamite and Collision episodes, they haven't been interacting with the former AEW World Champion.
If their match is called off on November 23, the duo can at least continue their rivalry by having a huge promo segment on the show. This can keep the rivalry alive.
As of now, both the unfit stars are yet to appear at Full Gear and AEW hasn't made an announcement about the contest. Only time will tell if the match is postponed or not.
