AEW News & Rumor Roundup: 2-time champion officially quits, could join WWE, Details of backstage incident, Unfortunate Hologram update
Welcome to the latest edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling's AEW News & Rumor Roundup. Today we take a look at a former AEW World Tag Team Champion who has officially left the company. Furthermore, there is an unfortunate update on Hologram's injury.
In addition, popular wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer spoke about the Ryan Nemeth-CM Punk controversy. So without ado, let's begin:
#4. Former AEW World Tag Team Champion Penta El Zero Miedo is no longer with the company
Penta El Zero Miedo and his brother Fénix (Lucha Brothers) are immensely popular. They are excellent Luchadors and have wrestled in All Elite Wrestling for years. However, for the past few months, they have been heavily rumored to join WWE.
Earlier today AEW confirmed that Penta is no longer a member of their roster. If the fans visit the company's official roster page, they will find out that the 39-year-old's profile has been removed. Interestingly, his brother's profile is still there. It remains to be seen what the future holds for the two wrestlers. However, fans speculate that Penta will make his WWE debut soon.
#3. Booker T unhappy with Athena's role in AEW
Athena is currently signed to All Elite Wrestling where he performs on their sister promotion; Ring of Honor. She is the reigning ROH Women's World Champion. Her reign has been dominant because she has held the title for close to 730 days. However, the former WWE Superstar is hardly featured on AEW programming.
Recently, WWE legend Booker T appeared on the Reality of Wrestling YouTube channel and criticized Tony Khan's booking of the former Ember Moon. According to him, the former NXT Women's Champion is supposed to be a mainstay of All Elite Wrestling programming.
"Athena would fit right into the AEW women’s roster. She’s just as good, if not better… instead, they stick her in a box and put her in Ring of Honor," said the Hall of Famer. [H/T: SEScoops]
#2. Hologram's injury is more serious than expected
Hologram was on an impressive winning streak until he got injured at WrestleDream. Initially, it was believed that this injury was minor. However, according to a recent Fightful report, he has suffered a serious ankle injury.
The 25-year-old was also under the impression that he would be returning to in-ring action in a fortnight. This is what he said previously:
"The slightly good news is that I won’t be out for that long; just about two weeks. I will try to heal up as soon as I can so I can bring a great spectacle for all of you and be a worthy champion. A hug from The Musketeer of The Air."
#1. Dave Meltzer was told that the Ryan Nemeth-CM Punk disagreement had been settled
The Ryan Nemeth-CM Punk controversy has taken the wrestling world by storm. Recently, Dave Meltzer appeared on Wrestling Observer Radio and said that somebody had told him that the issue between the two wrestlers had been taken care of. However, he soon realized that he was mistaken:
"A couple people had told me about it and then they were like, 'Don't worry, it's all settled. It's just a little disagreement. Then a couple days later, I kind of heard that it's anything but settled," said Meltzer. [H/T: Wrestling Inc.]
Former AEW star Ryan Nemeth has reportedly accused CM Punk of mistreatment.
