AEW News & Rumor Roundup: Big exit inevitable; "Ugly" backstage truth to be revealed; The Young Bucks' future

Welcome to the latest edition of Sportskeeda Wrestling's AEW News & Rumor Roundup. Today we will provide an update regarding The Young Bucks' future and will also take a look at a shocking revelation regarding The Lucha Brothers-Tony Khan situation.

Additionally, a former Mr. Money in the Bank recently stated that Khan did not want him in the Jacksonville-based company. So without further ado, let's begin:

#3. Rey Fénix promises to reveal details of his standoff with AEW in the future

Rey Fénix's exit from All Elite Wrestling is inevitable. He and Penta El Zero Miedo are immensely popular and are rumored to join the WWE. Over the past few months, the relationship between The Lucha Brothers and Tony Khan has reportedly become sour.

Even though Penta is now a free agent, Khan has reportedly added injury time to Fénix's contract. This means the 33-year-old won't be able to leave anytime soon.

Interestingly, Sportskeeda Wrestling's Dr. Chris Featherstone dropped a shocking update regarding this situation. He wrote on X that the conflict between the AEW CEO and The Lucha Bros. was not because the duo was in talks with WWE. He further added that the real reason would soon be revealed. Additionally, Chris wrote that if Fénix decided to speak up after his exit, the company could be in trouble.

"Rey Fenix did just that [spoke his mind], so here is some intel I received: 'The alleged excuse that Tony Khan found out about [The] Lucha Brothers [being] in talks with WWE is fake news, and the real reason [will be] revealed.' There is a 'real story' behind the situation with Rey Fenix, which is a 'huge injustice.' Expect The Lucha Brothers to go more in-depth about their time in AEW when they are free and clear to do so, and when they do, [it] is going to be ugly!'' he wrote.

In response, Fenix wrote that it was the ''most accurate comment.'' He also wrote:

''Unfortunately, due to my contractual issues, I cannot speak now, but I will have my time.''

#2. Tony Khan didn't want Jake Hager in AEW

Former Mr. Money in the Bank Jake Hager (FKA Jack Swagger) was signed to AEW from 2019 to 2024. In the Jacksonville-based company, he is best known for being the muscle of The Inner Circle, a faction that also comprised Chris Jericho (leader), Sammy Guevara, MJF, Wardlow, and more.

Recently, the 42-year-old was interviewed by News4JAX's Going Ringside. During the conversation, Hager revealed that Tony Khan was not interested in signing him. However, reigning ROH World Champion Chris Jericho wanted him there.

"Chris Jericho, he's the greatest of all-time, one of my favorites. For him to bring me in, say, 'I'm his guy;' what a compliment! Tony didn't want me there, but Chris did; he wanted me there, and it was awesome," Jake Hager said. [From 9:40 to 9:57]

#1. HENARE to be replaced in an upcoming match against The Young Bucks

HENARE and Great-O-Khan were scheduled to defend the IWGP Tag Team Championship against The Young Bucks at Wrestle Dynasty. Unfortunately, HENARE recently sustained an injury, forcing the duo to relinquish the gold.

Interestingly, NJPW recently announced on X that Great-O-Khan and a partner of his choice will lock horns with Nick and Matt Jackson for the vacant IWGP Tag Team Championship at the Tokyo Dome on January 5, 2025.
