Cody Rhodes needs to bring in top star in his feud against AJ Styles on WWE SmackDown
Cody Rhodes has rekindled his feud with AJ Styles after the American Nightmare fell victim to Styles' fake retirement swerve last week. Could Cody decide to bring in a major star to be by his side? This would be Ricky Starks.
Last week on SmackDown, The Phenomenal One pulled off a ploy reminiscent of Mark Henry's back in 2013. Earlier tonight, Cody Rhodes broke his silence after last week's attack and wanted to get his hands on AJ Styles. He challenged him to a match at Clash of the Castle for his world title, even adding a stipulation and making this an 'I Quit' match.
He then tried rushing over to Styles, who was standing alongside The O.C. but was eventually held back by security. Had he not been stopped, he would have been involved in a three-on-one brawl, and they could have gotten the better of him.
At this point, it seems That the American Nightmare may need some assistance, which could come from Ricky Starks. The two are close friends in real life, with the AEW star even attending WrestleMania XL to support him. With reports that The Absolute's contract is set to expire soon, WWE could bring him in.
Ricky Starks broke his silence about him being at WrestleMania XL
In April, Cody Rhodes was in the main event of WrestleMania XL. Ricky Starks was spotted attending the event despite being signed to AEW.
He broke his silence on the situation, saying he was simply there to support someone who has done a lot for him away from the ring and to see the culmination of Cody's hard work after everything he has gone through.
Ricky Starks' recent AEW booking plans were scrapped
The former FTW Champion has not been seen on TV in two months, but his tag team partner Big Bill was spotted aligning with Chris Jericho, which caused questions regarding his status.
A recent report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter revealed plans for Big Bill to turn on Ricky Starks and make him into a babyface, leading to the start of a singles run. However, these plans were scrapped, and the reason for this not being noted.
Arn Anderson could become a potential ally for Cody Rhodes
Recently, the American Nightmare mentioned his intentions of wanting a traditional manager. He is not part of any stable and has no one representing him.
On Busted Open Radio, Arn Anderson recently hinted he might be open to a short-term storyline with Cody Rhodes. However, he revealed that they have never talked about anything.
“Well, in case you don’t know, I am 65, and my liver is 127. I am on short time, and I don’t have a lot of time. Would I come back in the right situation for a short-term something with Cody? If anybody out there thinks it’s a good idea, let me know. I don’t know. That would be something because he and I have never had that conversation. We had a couple texts back and forth, and it never came up. So I went, maybe that was just him testing the waters himself.” [H/T - Wrestletalk]
Now, it remains to be seen whether Cody Rhodes decides to enlist help and who he brings in. Several superstars came to his aid in his war with The Bloodline, and the same could be said this time around.
