Cody Rhodes needs to retire 54-year-old WWE legend before 'finishing the story'
Cody Rhodes' storyline since returning to WWE has been one of the most captivating ones in recent memory. While fans will need to be patient for a while, he must retire his brother Dustin Rhodes before finishing his story arc.
The American Nightmare made a triumphant return to the Stamford-based company in 2022, showing up at WrestleMania 38 to take on Seth Rollins. It was a monumental moment as he was one of the founders of AEW who left for the company's biggest rival.
After wrapping up his feud with Seth Rollins, the former TNT Champion sustained a severe pectoral injury which ruled him out of action for a number of months. Upon his return from recovery, he won the 2023 Royal Rumble and earned a shot at the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39.
However, the former Intercontinental Champion came up short and was unable to complete his story of winning the 'big one' to honor his father, the late Dusty Rhodes. His brother Dustin Rhodes is still an active performer in AEW.
The Natural's contract is reportedly coming to an end soon, and he must return to WWE in order to play a role in his brother's storyline.
The two brothers tore the house down at Double or Nothing 2019 in an emotionally charged match, and a rematch in the biggest wrestling company could be perfect for the former Goldust to compete in his last match against his brother.
WWE veteran spoke about Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar's segment on RAW
Prior to their blockbuster clash at Backlash 2023, Cody Rhodes and Brock Lesnar had an intense segment on WWE RAW.
Former writer Vince Russo recently spoke about the segment, pointing out an issue with the booking.
"Bro, here's all I know. Think of this. Brock Lesnar is in a bar, okay? Somebody comes from behind him, who he never sees, clocks Brock in the nose and cuts his nose; Brock is bleeding. The next thing you see is Brock backing up and walking to the back. In what world is that happening?" [44:55 - 45:40]
Cody Rhodes overcame The Beast Incarnate in the main event of Backlash. The former reversed a Kimura Lock into a roll-up and picked up a huge win over his bloodied opponent.
