Former WWE star to leave Tony Khan’s promotion due to backstage frustration? Exploring potential twist
Former WWE star and current Ring of Honor Women's World Champion Athena (fka Ember Moon) could be on her way out of ROH. She signed with Tony Khan's promotion in 2022.
Athena won the Ring of Honor Women's World Championship in 2022 and has stayed on top of the brand since. The former WWE star is the longest-reigning Champion in ROH history with her title reign currently at 700+ days and counting. ROH is set to present the Final Battle PPV from the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan Center on December 20, 2024.
At the PPV, the former WWE NXT Women's Champion is set to defend her ROH Women's World Championship against Billie Starkz. Both women have had a heated feud and this could be the moment Tony Khan shocks the world by not only ending Athena's ROH Women's Championship reign but also ending her run on the Ring of Honor brand.
Athena could lose the ROH Women's World Championship at Final Battle and could permanently move to the AEW women's roster. The move has had been in plans according to Athena who has spoken to Tony Khan about returning to All Elite Wrestling's women's division.
Former WWE star Athena is looking forward to competing on AEW television
Before her move to ROH, Athena was initially a part of the All Elite Wrestling roster. However, the women's division has changed a lot since then. The roster is stacked with top names like Toni Storm, Mariah May, Mercedes Mone, and more.
In a recent interview with Stephanie Chase, the ROH Women's World Champion noted how the AEW women's division has some of the best talent and said that she doesn't want to get lost in the shuffle. Athena further sent a warning to the roster and claimed that she'll beat them all once she arrives.
"We have Mercedes Moné, Britt Baker, Hikaru Shida, we have so many amazing champions... Toni Storm, Mariah May. It's a little congested right now and I don't want to come into a scene congested, and [get] lost in the shuffle, and I want to give those girls their spotlight because when I come to AEW, I'm beating the brakes off all these hussies, and they're not going to be able to stand toe-to-toe. So, if I'm the best kept secret, they should have been watching ROH," Athena said.
The fans will have to wait and see when Tony Khan decides to move former WWE star Athena from Ring of Honor to All Elite Wrestling.
