Former WWE star, The Elite member - 5 stars who deserve to win a singles title in AEW
AEW currently possesses the most diverse roster in the world of professional wrestling. Although WWE also has an incredible talent pool at its disposal, it still can't match the variety of wrestlers that All Elite Wrestling has signed over the years.
From seasoned strikers to breathtaking high flyers, the Jacksonville-based promotion has all kinds of talents on its roster to help it cater to a variety of audiences. Unfortunately, many incredible wrestlers often get lost in the shuffle, courtesy of AEW's large talent pool.
While names like Jon Moxley, Samoa Joe, and Kenny Omega have captured multiple titles in AEW, many talented performers are yet to get their hands on their first singles championship. The list includes some notable international stars, who were at the top of their respective promotions before they signed with the Tony Khan-led promotion.
In this article, let's look at five stars who deserve to win a singles title in All Elite Wrestling.
#5. Malakai Black has surprisingly never won a singles title in All Elite Wrestling
Malakai Black is a complete package. Known for his exceptional in-ring skills, The Dutch Destroyer is equally excellent on the microphone. Considering his versatility as a character, Black possesses all the attributes to be the face of any promotion.
Unfortunately, the former NXT Champion has not achieved much success in AEW as a solo performer. Although Malakai Black did win the AEW World Trios Championship with the House of Black, he has remained far away from winning a singles championship.
Following his impactful debut against Cody Rhodes in 2021, Black was touted to be a future World Champion in All Elite Wrestling. It is his third year as part of the Tony Khan-led promotion, and the former NXT Champion is yet to get his hands on even a mid-card title.
It is about time Tony Khan rewards the Sin Eater with a singles championship. If Khan fails to realize Malakai Black's immense potential, it may cost him one of his most reliable talents.
#4. Mariah May has been a valuable addition to the AEW women's roster
Since her arrival in October 2023, Mariah May has emerged as one of the most entertaining acts in the AEW Women's division. Her pairing with Toni Storm has been a huge success, prompting the fans to want more of The Glamour on their television screens.
The Fighting Princess has witnessed a huge surge in her popularity, courtesy of her charming on-screen performances. Although she currently plays second fiddle to the Timeless Toni Storm, Mariah May has all the qualities to succeed as a solo performer in All Elite Wrestling.
Tony Khan should consider putting a singles championship on The Glamour sometime in the future. While a run with the TBS Championship seems more likely, it won't be surprising if Mariah May is the one who dethrones Toni Storm as the AEW Women's Champion.
#3. Ricky Starks deserves to win a singles championship
Ricky Starks has been absent from AEW television since March 2024. The Tony Khan-led creative team currently does not have any solid plans for The Absolute One, which has extended his run on the sidelines.
It comes as a huge shocker that Starks has not tasted singles gold in AEW even once. Although he was the FTW Champion in the past, the title is not officially sanctioned by the Jacksonville-based promotion.
The Stroke Daddy has constantly proven himself as a reliable asset to Tony Khan. Despite being constantly underutilized, Starks has established himself as a fan-favorite in the eyes of the AEW audience. Not having a title around his waist name has not prevented Ricky Starks from outshining the other talents on the All Elite roster.
The Absolute One has done more than enough to emphasize his worth as a performer, which makes it necessary for Tony Khan to reward him with a singles championship. If Khan continues to neglect Ricky Starks, the popular star might eventually jump ship to WWE.
#2. Jay White has had an underwhelming run as a solo performer
Before signing with AEW in 2022, Jay White was a force to be reckoned with in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. The Switchblade dominated the Japanese wrestling circuit for years, winning multiple coveted championships in the process.
Unfortunately, White's run in the Tony Khan-led promotion so far has panned out the exact opposite. The leader of Bullet Club has prominently featured in the tag team division, with only a handful of title opportunities in singles competition.
For a star of his caliber, it is shocking that Jay White has not captured a singles championship yet. The Catalyst desperately needs a title around his waist to move up the ranks in the Jacksonville-based promotion.
#1. Jack Perry has witnessed a career resurgence of lat
Following his backstage brawl with CM Punk at All In 2023, Jack Perry found his wrestling career in jeopardy. The young star was largely blamed for costing Tony Khan his biggest-ever draw in Punk, which led to his indefinite suspension from the company.
However, the deafening outside noise could not make Perry give up on himself. The former FTW Champion embraced the online hate to carve out his "Scapegoat" gimmick, which is currently one of the hottest acts in All Elite Wrestling.
Since aligning with The Elite, Jack Perry has emerged as one of the most despicable heels in the Tony Khan-led promotion. He has been fairly decent in NJPW as well, cementing his growth as a performer in the last few months.
As one of AEW's most impressive homegrown talents, it is high time Jack Perry is given his moment to shine in the singles division. Having overcome a career-threatening phase in recent months, The Scapegoat deserves to hold singles gold very soon.
