FTR to recruit 5-time WWE Intercontinental Champion at AEW Fight for the Fallen 2025? Chances explored

Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler were ambushed by a major heel group last week on AEW programming. Despite not appearing in person on the Holiday Bash edition of Dynamite this week, the duo sent a message to their enemies and promised to bring the fight to them on Fight for the Fallen next year at their hometown of Asheville, North Carolina - possibly alongside a returning former WWE Superstar.

It was on the December 14 edition of AEW Collision that The Death Riders took out FTR in a backstage assault, seemingly because the former AEW World Tag Team Champions had rescued Orange Cassidy from their brutality on an earlier episode. On the December 18 episode of Dynamite, Wheeler and Harwood responded to the heel group's attack, and revealed that while they would not be cleared for the rest of 2024, they would be ready to fight The Death Riders at Dynamite: Fight for the Fallen on January 1, 2025.

While closing out their statement, Dax The Axe indicated that he and Wheeler would not show up to face Jon Moxley and his team-mates alone. This hint, besides the fact that Fight for the Fallen is set to air from Asheville, raises the possibility that the ally FTR teased on Dynamite could be none other than Adam Copeland (fka Edge).

The Rated-R Superstar, who is a resident of Asheville himself, has been out of action due to injury since Double or Nothing earlier this year. Copeland is close friends with Dax and Cash, and would undoubtedly be willing to make his comeback to AEW by helping them against The Death Riders. This could, in turn, subsequently lead to a major singles program between the former WWE IC and World Heavyweight Champion and the reigning All Elite World Champion, Jon Moxley, or a Trios Title program pitting FTR and Copeland against Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and PAC.

What caused Adam Copeland's AEW hiatus?

Adam Copeland was last seen in the squared circle at Double or Nothing 2024 earlier this year. The Ultimate Opportunist defended his TNT Title in a Barbed Wire Steel Cage match against the formidable Malakai Black, retaining his belt after an intense and violent bout.

Unfortunately, Copeland fractured his tibia while attempting an elbow drop on Black from the top of the cage. Recent rumors suggest that the WWE Hall of Famer may be cleared and ready for action, and it remains to be seen if his much-anticipated AEW return will take place on New Year's Day, 2025.
