"I can't believe they're going to make me leave" - When Jon Moxley decided to leave WWE
Former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley has been an All Elite Wrestling roster member since the first Double or Nothing event in May 2019. But what was his exit from WWE like?
The former Dean Ambrose left WWE in April 2019 after his contract expired, ending an eight-year company run. However, it has been well-documented how unhappy he was towards the end of his run.
At the fourth-annual Starrcast convention in November 2019, Jon Moxley said he was upset when he left WWE. Not because he wanted to stay but because the company couldn't find anything suitable for him to do.
"The whole time from the time I came back to about the beginning of the year, I knew I was leaving, but I was like p***ed about it. I wasn't excited to leave yet. I was like, bitter about it because I was like, 'I can't believe they're going to make me leave. They're going to make me walk away from all this money. I can't believe that.'" [1:51-2:08]
Moxley elaborated by stating that he felt as if everything the WWE creative team gave him made his character look like an idiot and that he was amazed that he would have to go back to the independent circuit:
"Can we not just write one good storyline? Can we not write one good promo? Does everything have to be f**king stupid? Does everything have to make me look like an idiot? Like, for f**k sake, you're going to make me walk away from all this f**king money. Because it's not like I didn't want that money, you know? I was like, 'yeah I want it, but I'm not doing that s**t again.' So I was like p***ed, I'm like, 'I can't believe--they're so f**king incompetent that they're going to make me walk away from all this money. Jesus Christ, now I've got to go back to the indies, f**k it, let's go." [2:09-2:38]
Jon Moxley will be in action at AEW Double or Nothing
Four years on from his shocking debut, Jon Moxley has become one of the most reliable members of the AEW roster. At this year's Double or Nothing pay-per-view, he will be involved in what many believe will be one of the most violent matches ever.
On May 28th, Moxley and the rest of the Blackpool Combat Club will take on The Elite and Hangman Page in the second-ever "Anarchy in the Arena" match, one year on from the first match of its kind that the Jericho Appreciation Society won.
Before that, Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, and Wheeler Yuta will have a warm-up trios match on the upcoming episode of AEW Rampage against Trent Beretta, Chuck Taylor, and Bandido.
