Kenny Omega's return to AEW - 5 things that MUST happen!

Former AEW World Champion Kenny Omega has been absent from television since December 2023, with a return date to the squared circle currently unknown.

In December 2023, The Cleaner broke the news about his unfortunate diagnosis of diverticulitis which immediately forced him to take time off from AEW. Omega is currently waiting to get surgery, if required, to heal his current injuries. However, last week on AEW Dynamite, Kenny Omega's surprising return for the upcoming Dynamite in Canada was announced, which has raised interesting speculation among the fans.

Kenny Omega's friends, The Young Bucks have become one of the most dangerous stables in All Elite Wrestling during his absence and have seemingly replaced him in The Elite with Kazuchika Okada. Many believe that Omega may address this issue as well as some other potential angles discussed below.

#5. Side with Tony Khan

AEW CEO Tony Khan was the talk of the town after Dynamite went off air last week. Khan had reinstated Jack Perry to the Jacksonville-based promotion and shook his hand just before getting punched in the stomach by Perry. The Young Bucks would later come out to seemingly stop Perry before turning their attention on Tony Khan and taking him out with the brutal 'Tony Khan Driver.'

The Young Bucks are one of the closest friends of Kenny Omega and he was previously the third member of The Elite before Nicholas & Matthew Jackson replaced him with the newly signed Kazuchika Okada. Kenny Omega returning and addressing The Bucks for replacing him as the leader of The Elite could be another major twist in this storyline. This would also allow Omega to turn into a massive babyface by helping the CEO Tony Khan fight off Jack Perry and The Elite.

#4. Rejoining The Elite

While going against The Elite for firing him may be the most likely scenario for Kenny Omega, he may pull off a shocking heel turn and rejoin his long-time friends to form a major heel faction.

Kenny Omega could play the crowd and Tony Khan by willing to help the CEO fight off The Elite and later turn on him. The angle could definitely get people talking and develop more interest in who could be the AEW star that will eventually help Tony Khan take revenge on Jack Perry and The Elite.

#3. Challenging Will Ospreay

Will Ospreay has been one of the biggest signings of All Elite Wrestling in recent memory. The Aerial Assassin has had incredible matches against the likes of Konosuke Takeshita and Kyle Fletcher. Ospreay recently put on one of his greatest performances against Bryan Danielson at last Sunday's Dynasty PPV.

The next match for Will Ospreay is for the International Title against Roderick Strong at Double or Nothing 2024. The company may shock the fans by lining up Kenny Omega as his next potential rival after the Double or Nothing PPV. Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay competed against each other at Wrestle Kingdom 17 and the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2023 PPV. A third match between both men could very well be on the horizon and will definitely live up to its hype.

#2. Challenging for the AEW World Championship

Kenny Omega was one of the best AEW World Champions in the title's history. He had a great title reign during the Pandemic Era and made the title relevant. The Cleaner may be eyeing the world title once again upon his return on Dynamite and may call out Swerve Strickland.

Swerve Strickland recently defeated Samoa Joe to capture the AEW World Championship at the AEW Dynasty PPV. Strickland's next challenger is currently unknown and the inclusion of Kenny Omega in the main event scene could be the major reset button that the promotion needs.

#1. Retirement

Kenny Omega has reportedly not had any surgery yet after getting diagnosed with diverticulitis in December 2023. The Cleaner's current in-ring status is unknown and he may address his future at the upcoming Dynamite appearance.

Diverticulitis is a very serious condition that could potentially force Kenny Omega to hang up his boots permanently and retire from in-ring competition. Announcing his retirement could indeed be Kenny Omega's major announcement during his segment on Dynamite.
