16-time WWE champion teases blockbuster return after 4-year absence

A former WWE Superstar has hinted at his return to the company after nearly four years. The name being discussed is Matt Hardy.

The Broken One left WWE in 2020 and joined AEW later that year. Hardy recently decided not to re-sign with the Tony Khan-led company. He returned to TNA Wrestling on April 20, 2024, at the Rebellion pay-per-view. Before he showed up in Total Nonstop Action, the tag team legend consistently teased returning to the global juggernaut. However, nothing came of it.

On Tuesday, Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes announced that 25 stars would compete in a Battle Royal to earn a shot at Trick Williams' NXT Championship. The American Nightmare added that the match's participants could be from different locker rooms.

Reacting to the announcement on X/Twitter, Matt Hardy disclosed his plans to win the NXT Championship after potentially securing the TNA World Title on Friday.

"After I PROCURE the TNA Title of the World on Friday, I might just DELETE 24 OBNOXIOUS ANTS & also become the NXT Champion," he tweeted.

Matt Hardy is embroiled in a feud with Moose over the TNA World Championship. The two stars will lock horns for the gold at All Odds on June 14, 2024.

The Broken One is no stranger to being a champion, as he has held multiple titles in WWE. He is an 11-time Tag Team Champion. Hardy has also won the ECW, Hardcore, European, United States, and Cruiserweight titles in the global juggernaut.

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Matt Cardona hints at returning and facing NXT Champion Trick Williams

Cody Rhodes' announcement has grabbed the attention of another wrestler who has previously wrestled for the Stamford-based company. Matt Cardona was part of World Wrestling Entertainment between 2005 and 2020, working with top names like Adam Copeland (fka Edge), Kane, John Cena, and others.

Reacting to Rhodes' announcement, Cardona tweeted a photo of himself, seemingly hinting that he too is open to returning to World Wrestling Entertainment. While fans would love to see The Indy God challenge Trick Williams, it is unlikely to happen, as the former is currently recovering from an injury.
