24-year veteran declares himself as the first member of Team AEW for Blood and Guts match against The Elite
A 24-year veteran has revealed that he is the first member of Team AEW for an upcoming Blood and Guts match against The Elite. The talent in question is Mark Briscoe.
The July 3 Beach Break edition of Dynamite follows on the heels of Forbidden Door 2024. The episode saw reigning ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe address the crowd in the Wintrust Arena, reflecting on nearly winning the TNT Championship in the Ladder Match this past Sunday. The bout would ultimately be won by Jack Perry, who battered the tag team legend with a steel chair and climbed up the ladder to retrieve the title.
Briscoe went on to declare himself as the first official member of Team AEW for the 2024 iteration of Blood and Guts, which will take place later this month. The challenge for the incredibly violent bout had been issued by Nicholas Jackson of The Young Bucks sometime earlier, who asked the best of the AEW roster to face The Elite in the brutal steel structure.
Shortly after making his announcement, however, Briscoe was blindsided by Jack Perry, although Kyle O'Reilly would promptly appear to intervene on behalf of his ally. The Violent Artist was incapacitated by Kazuchika Okada in turn, who laid out O'Reilly with a Rainmaker.
The Young Bucks then made their way to the ring and delivered an EVP trigger to Briscoe before retreating in the face of The Acclaimed and Billy Gunn, who made the save for the babyfaces.
The Sensei of Redneck Kung-Fu began his wrestling career in 2000 and has participated in innumerable high-stakes and brutal matches, making him a perfect fit for Blood and Guts. It remains to be seen who the other members for Team AEW will turn out to be.
