27-year-old star discloses why Tony Khan was "really p***ed" off at him during his time in AEW
A 27-year-old star recently recalled making Tony Khan mad during his brief run in AEW. The star is Joe Alonzo, who recently left NWA.
Joe Alonzo is one of the youngest stars in professional wrestling. He had a brief run in AEW in 2020, where he competed in a couple of matches as an enhancement talent. He was brought back for a match in 2022 and has not been seen ever since in All Elite Wrestling.
Speaking with Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, Joe Alonzo opened up about his run with All Elite Wrestling and revealed that Tony Khan got mad at him for wearing a Patriots hat on TV as Khan is the owner of Jaguars.
"So at AEW, I got very comfortable with just being myself and there was a time where I remember measuring Ricky Starks and Marco Stunt on the stage because Ricky was calling me short. I was like, ‘Ricky, you're like 5' 10", bro. Don't call me short. You're only two inches taller than me, like an inch maybe.’ He's like, ‘Oh, I'm six feet. I'm six feet.’ Yeah, I'm like, ‘Bro, you're like 5’10 and a half, bro. Get the hell out of here.’ "
He continued:
"That was like one thing I wore a Patriots hat in a segment, which that really p***ed, I think, Tony Khan off because he owns the Jags." H/T:[Fightful]
Tony Khan recently shared his thoughts on Ricochet amidst his rumored AEW debut
Ricochet recently left the WWE, seemingly due to creative frustrations. The One and Only is a free agent, and many believe that his next destination might be All Elite Wrestling.
Speaking in a recent interview with Comicbook.com, Tony Khan praised Ricochet and called him one of the most exciting stars in wrestling. He further noted how Ricochet has competed with a lot of AEW talent in the past.
"I'm a huge fan of Ricochet. I think he's a great, great wrestler," Khan said. "He's been involved in matches against some of the top stars in AEW. He also has a great history in New Japan Pro Wrestling, as he's been a champion there and a top star. We have great collaboration there and I love the history of New Japan and I think he's a big part of it. During a great era when a lot of our top stars were wrestling there, he was a big part of it. I have a lot of admiration and respect for Ricochet and think he's one of the top athletes and one of the most exciting stars in all of wrestling." [H/T: Comicbook.com]
Ricochet has been quiet ever since becoming a free agent at the end of June. It will be interesting to see if the former Intercontinental Champion signs with AEW in the upcoming months.
