3-time champion from WWE returns to AEW TV and attacks Christian Cage’s protege
A former WWE Cruiserweight Champion made his blockbuster return on AEW Collision and attacked the protege of Christian Cage. The star had been off TV for almost two months.
The three-time WWE champion in question is Buddy Matthews. The House of Black member is currently signed with AEW but gained prominence during his time in the Stamford-based promotion, where he won the Cruiserweight Title, NXT Tag Team Championship, and RAW Tag Team Championship, alongside Seth Rollins. Matthews was released from Stamford-based company in 2021 and the following year, he joined All Elite Wrestling.
Matthews was injured during an episode of Collision in June, where he teamed up his Malakia Black and Brody King to take on Bang Bang Gang. The former WWE star was escorted out of the arena by the medical team and has been absent since then before making his return on the latest episode of Saturday Night Show.
Buddy made his surprising return alongside House of Black to interrupt The Patriarchy, as Christian Cage was giving the World Trios Title belt to his protege, Nick Wayne.
Later, the Bang Bang Gang also got involved leaving Nick Wayne vulnerable for an attack. The House of Black launched an attack on Wayne and also had a face-off with the former Trios Champions in the ring. Moreover, Christian was looking at all this from between the crowd. It remains to be seen where the story is headed.
