3-time WWE champion confirms he wants to wrestle his retirement match in AEW

A former WWE champion recently made his debut in AEW. He has already decided that he wants to have his retirement match in the company.

Soon after his WWE exit, MVP showed up on AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam and confronted Prince Nana. In the following weeks, Shelton Benjamin also made his first appearance for the company and aligned himself with the former WWE star. Bobby Lashley joined them on the 30th October episode of the Wednesday night program.

The trio is known as The Hurt Syndicate in AEW. Although it has been a few weeks since he arrived in the Jacksonville-based promotion, MVP has already made some big decisions regarding his future in the organization.

During a recent interview with Drop The Heat, the former United States Champion teased some major plans for The Hurt Syndicate. MVP said he wanted to conclude the faction's chapter the way it should have ended in WWE.

“Well, the next chapter currently is AEW. Got the boys back together, The Hurt Syndicate. I want to end that chapter the way it should have been ended, so we [have] plans to do some really good business in AEW."

While the veteran is enjoying his time in the company as a mouthpiece and a manager, his in-ring career is nearing its end. MVP made it clear that he wanted to have his retirement match in All Elite Wrestling.

"I got a few matches left in me, I’d like to have one, well, a few matches before I hang it up for good because I’m not officially retired yet, so I want to have my final retirement match. After that, we’ll see man. I’m enjoying this role as a manager, a mouthpiece, doing commissioner work. If somebody wants to keep paying me to come around and put a microphone to my mouth, I’ll do it for as long as they want me to do it. Otherwise, as far as wrestling, that chapter is coming to a close pretty soon. Right now, I just want to have a good time making money with my friends." [H/T: Fightful]

MVP held the United States and Tag Team titles in his WWE career. He also gained prominence because of his remarkable mic work.

MVP opened up on his WWE exit

When MVP first returned to the WWE in 2020, he found success alongside Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and Cedric Alexander as part of The Hurt Business. The group continued to dominate the company before its abrupt split.

Under Triple H's creative control, MVP had a relatively less significant on-screen role. He spent several months as Omos' manager, but that didn't work out well for him, and he eventually left the company earlier this year.

During the same interview, MVP mentioned that he didn't want to re-sign with the Stamford-based company since the new management wasn't for him. The veteran also said he was probably not a valuable asset in the eyes of the new administration.

“This time, I didn’t want to re-sign and I let it be known that I wasn’t going to re-sign because the new management in place—anytime, I don’t care where you work, when new management comes in, it’s good for some people and not for other people. New people come in, old people go. So I just felt that it was definitely time to go because the new management just wasn’t for me and I ain’t for him [laughs]," he said. [H/T: Fightful]

It will be interesting to see what The Hurt Syndicate will do during its time in AEW.
