30-year-old teases going after the AEW Women’s Championship
An AEW star has revealed that one of her next big career goals would be to capture the AEW Women's World Championship. This would be Deonna Purrazzo.
The Virtuosa signed with the company in January and has had a fairly decent run with the company. In her second month with them, she challenged Toni Storm for the Women's World Championship but fell short due to outside interference. This was her closest chance to becoming a champion. Currently, Mariah May is the holder of the belt.
During her appearance on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Deonna Purrazzo claimed she had to win a title at some point. She mentioned that, upon joining AEW, everything was new to her, and she was competing with many people she had never worked with.
“I gotta win the AEW Women’s World Championship [laughs]. I think a championship at AEW. I think going there and just knowing the type of environment it is and the complete new set of girls I’ve never worked with, I knew it was going to become a challenge to, I don’t want to say conform, but relearn a system."
She brought up how she needed to adjust from the system in TNA she had gotten used to. Purrazzo felt like she was adjusting well, but there was still work to do.
“I had been comfortable at TNA for so long. I knew the system, I knew the people, I knew the position I was in. I was on top there. So there was most leeway for me to give my opinion or pitch ideas," Deonna continued. "Coming into AEW, you kind of need to earn those rights all over again. So I think there’s still so left for me to do. I feel like I’m just now feeling like myself again there, feeling like ‘The Virtuosa.’ I’ve been there nine-and-half months now." [H/T Fightful]
The AEW star brought up comments on her look during her debut
Following her debut on the promotion, Deonna Purrazzo was subject to harsh comments on the internet regarding how she looked.
During the same interview, the 30-year-old revealed what she was feeling at the time and how this had affected her. However, she mentioned how determined she was to put in the work for herself.
"A realization that there's work I could be doing for myself and I'm not gonna do it for the troller on the internet who wants to tell me I'm fat. Today, I'm gonna do it for me and put the work in for me to feel like I'm at my best and I can put in my best work out there. I cried because the internet hurt my feelings but then I cried because of the love I felt for my fans and family."
Currently, Purrazzo is in the process of building a new faction. With Taya Valkyrie already by her side, it remains to be seen who else joins her and what impact they'll have.
