"Absolutely incorrect" - Konnan shoots down massive WWE rumor about AEW's Penta and Rey Fenix

The AEW status of The Lucha Bros has been up in the air as of late with rumors of the high-flyers potentially signing with WWE. The legendary Konnan is close to the brothers, and has seemingly killed part of a major rumor on their futures.

Sources reported earlier this month that Penta El Zero Miedo and Rey Fenix were set to leave AEW as their contracts were expiring. It was also said that Tony Khan has wanted to re-sign the duo, but they allegedly kept delaying the process to the point it became clear that the one-time AEW World Tag Team Champions did not want to re-sign, which was backed up by a cryptic Konnan tweet.

Fightful Select added that Penta and Fenix are likely signing with WWE as a package deal, but they do not want to go through NXT.

Konnan has now dismissed at least part of the report. Fightful's early August updates noted that Penta openly told people that he had talks with WWE this summer, and indicated that he did not want to join NXT. Konnan was asked about this on his Keepin' It 100 podcast, specifically the line about Penta openly discussing the potential move and not being interested in NXT:

"Who's Fightful? Sean Ross Sapp? You are absolutely incorrect, my friend," Konnan said.

Konnan did not elaborate on the rumor. The former nWo Wolfpac member is close with The Lucha Bros and other talents due to his connections in AAA and the lucha libre world in general. There have been no public responses to the rumor killer as of this writing, but Penta did previously try to dismiss some of the talk.

AEW All Out card shaping up

AEW is set to host its second annual All In pay-per-view from Wembley Stadium in London in just under two weeks. The company will return to PPV less than one week later as the sixth annual All Out event takes place on Saturday, September 7, from the Now Arena near Chicago.

Officials already have two All Out matches in the works. The winner of the All In match between Will Ospreay and American Champion MJF will defend the title against PAC the following weekend. If MJF wins, PAC will challenge for the American Championship, but Ospreay will revert back to the International Championship if he's victorious in his hometown.

The CMLL World Women's Championship will also be defended in a stipulation match at All Out. The All In pre-show is set to feature champion Willow Nightingale teaming with Tomohiro Ishii to face Kris Statlander and Stokely Hathaway. The winning team gets to pick the stipulation for Statlander vs. Nightingale for the title at All Out.

AEW will have 35 days before its next pay-per-view following All Out. The second annual WrestleDream event is scheduled for Saturday, October 12 at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, WA.
