Adam Cole finally addresses criticism of his feud with MJF in AEW

Former WWE star Adam Cole recently opened up about criticism of his current feud with Maxwell Jacob Friedman (MJF) in AEW. The Panama City Playboy recently returned to action in the Jacksonville-based promotion. Last year at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, Adam Cole broke his ankle, leading to a delay in his storyline with The Salt of The Earth.

The Undisputed Kingdom leader was revealed as The Devil at the Worlds End PPV in December 2023. Earlier this year, the former NXT Champion made a one-off appearance at Double or Nothing, where he was attacked by MJF.

At WrestleDream 2024 last month, Adam Cole made a shocking return and chased off MJF, officially restarting his feud with The American Hero. However, the storyline has received backlash from a section of fans, as the 35-year-old was initially the bad guy in the story.

The confusion has led to many losing interest in the angle. In a recent appearance on The Danny Ocean Show, The Devil addressed the mixed reactions from fans. While Cole said that his story with MJF needed a "definitive conclusion," the AEW star admitted that it would take some time for the angle to regain momentum.

“I just feel that the story that me and MJF told needs a definitive conclusion. Coming back from injury, that’s exactly what I’m hopping into. Of course, you want to make as many people happy as possible. Then sometimes too, with stories, it takes a little bit to get back to where you were because a lot of the stuff that we did was very slow-burn,” he said. [H/T: RingsideNews]

AEW star Adam Cole recalls his injuries

Adam Cole was away from in-ring action for more than a year until his recent return to All Elite Wrestling. In a recent interview with Adrian Hernandez on Unlikely, The Panama City Playboy spoke about his recovery process during his hiatus.

The AEW star said that while he never thought about retiring from professional wrestling, the ''mental discouragement'' was at its peak.

"The concussion was genuinely scary. There was a real question of if I was going to be able to come back, and fortunately, I got the clearance from doctors that it was completely safe; it was fine; I was able to return. So, when this issue with the ankle happened, there was never a point where I felt like, 'OK, I’m going to retire,' because I knew this was something I could come back from. Now, as far as mental discouragement... it was an all-time high," he said. [From 7:17 to 7:44]

We will have to wait and see what Tony Khan has in store for the Adam Cole-MJF storyline in the coming weeks.
