Adam Cole shares gruesome rehab details before AEW return; talks about 'someone else's bone in my ankle'

AEW star Adam Cole recently opened up about the journey of his return to the squared circle. He was absent from in-ring action for more than a year after suffering an ankle injury.

The Panama City Playboy sustained a major injury at last year's AEW Grand Slam when he came to support his former friend MJF. While he was seen onscreen as a part of Undisputed Kingdom, he didn't wrestle much. However, after failing to recover due to constant traveling reportedly, he didn't attend shows anymore.

Adam Cole returned at WrestleDream after fully recovering from his ankle injury. Last week, he picked up a huge victory against Buddy Matthews. It was his first match since a lengthy period, and he seemingly struggled to fully devote himself to the bout.

While speaking on Stick to Wrestling, the 2022 Owen Hart Cup winner revealed that he had to replace some of his ankle bone fragments with a bone transplant from a cadaver and had two surgeries in less than a week.

"Truth be told, my ankle did practically explode. I had to have two surgeries within seven days. I have a cadaver bone, meaning someone else's bone, in my ankle as well as a bunch of different screws and stuff. The rehab was quite a difficult process, to be expected, but again, the whole time, I was just thinking about 'I got to get back, I got to get back.' Then as it got closer and closer, I started feeling better and feeling like myself again," he said. [H/T - WrestlingInc.]

Adam Cole is set to face Malakai Black on Dynamite

MJF has laid out a challenge to Adam Cole to pick up three victories in a row before he can face him at Full Gear.

Adam Cole defeated Buddy Matthews in a great contest last week and took one step closer to facing MJF at the event. He is slated to face another House of Black member this week. Malakai Black will be wrestling a singles match for the first time since his bout against Adam Copeland in May at the Double or Nothing Pay-Per-View.

It remains to be seen if The Panama City Playboy manages to pick up the victory against Malakai Black.
