Adam Copeland (fka Edge) opens up about complications during surgery after horrific injury in AEW
Adam Copeland (FKA Edge) recently revealed information regarding his recent surgery and some bumps in the road he encountered. In the end, the procedure was successful and he is now working on his recovery.
A few weeks ago, the Rater R Superstar revealed that he sustained a fractured Tibia during his Barbed Wire Steel Cage match against Malakai Black. The star also mentioned at the time that he needed surgery and that this would push back his return to the ring.
During an appearance on the Busted Open Radio, Adam Copeland mentioned having surgery a few days ago. He revealed that there were complications due to where the fracture was, and that they had to do some work around on this. But importantly, the procedure ended up being successful.
“I had the surgery on Monday, and it was a success. I guess it got a little complicated just because of where the break is. It’s kind of right above the ankle joint, which is called a peon fracture, apparently. So the cartilage between your ankle and your Tibia and Fibula got squished, and then the break. I guess there were shards of it too, so they had to try and compact it all with the plate and the screws."
He continued by admitting that due to his injury, he has gotten to focus on other things including learning to use DoorDash from his wife Beth Phoenix.
"I haven’t looked at an X-ray, I’m not going to. Just because that stuff, I don’t find that helpful [laughs]. But with this injury, I’ve realized DoorDash is pretty cool. I started using DoorDash, I didn’t know how to use it. I had to get Beth to show me how. I’ve been doing a lot of reading, a lot of Dr. Mario.” [H/T RSN]
Adam Copeland talked about his immediate reaction to his fall
On the same podcast, Adam Copeland talked about his initial reaction to the bump he took during the match.
At the moment, he checked his Achilles as he previously sustained a major injury there, and due to him not feeling any pain he thought he was in the clear and he may have just a strain or a bruise on his ankle and knee area.
"So the good thing was I landed, and I truly was like, ‘Okay, it’s not my Achilles,’ because it was the same leg that I tore my Achilles on. I was like, ‘Well, Achilles held, that’s cool. Maybe it’s an ankle sprain, maybe it’s a bone bruise.’ It felt like the ankle and tibia or fibula jammed, right? I got up, finished the match, and I felt a little click. I was like, ‘Hey, okay, I got this.’ I finished the match." [H/T WrestleZone]
Later on, Adam Copeland talked about how after the match, once the medical team checked his leg, they immediately rushed him to the emergency room and told him not to walk on his leg as he had broken it.
It remains to be seen when Copeland will return to the ring as it seems he will be sidelined for a while due to the injury.
