Adam Copeland makes bold statement about his horrific spot at AEW Double Or Nothing 2024; seemingly regrets his choice

AEW Double Or Nothing 2024 featured a brutal championship match between Adam Copeland and Malakai Black. Copeland just underwent surgery for the leg injury that occurred in the match, and now it seems like he may be regretting the viral spot.

The 20-minute Barbed Wire Steel Cage match at Double Or Nothing saw Copeland retain the AEW TNT Championship. The bloody brawl included a spot where the former Edge of WWE jumped from the cage to land feet-first in putting Black through a table. Unfortunately, the 50-year-old suffered a fractured tibia on the dive. He was stripped of the TNT Championship, and just this week he was forced to undergo surgery to repair the injury.

The Ultimate Opportunist appeared on Busted Open Radio today and recalled being hopeful that the injury wasn't too bad, but Emergency Room doctors told him he had a broken leg and needed to get off of it. Copeland admitted that the risk he took in jumping from the cage was not necessary, but he's happy he was able to finish the match.

Copeland, who brought a big surprise to AEW Double Or Nothing, joked that the table spot was "less a leap and more a fall," adding that your brain says you can do it but when you land, your body remembers it's 50. The 32-year veteran seemingly expressed a bit of regret over the spot:

"I think I could have got the same mileage if I did it off the top rope. So, live and learn... but at the same time, I finished the match," Adam Copeland said. [H/T F4Wonline]

Copeland has not offered a timeframe for his return to the ring. A broken tibia can take 4-6 months to heal from, depending on various factors including the severity, and that would put the wrestling legend back in the ring sometime between early October and early December.

The two-time TNT Champion will likely miss All In in late October and All Out in early September, but could make WrestleDream in mid-October and Full Gear in late November. He has a good shot at making Worlds End at the end of December as well.

New AEW TNT Champion to be crowned

All Elite Wrestling's TNT Championship is currently vacant after Adam Copeland was stripped by The Young Bucks last month. The Rated R Superstar is expected to be out for months due to a broken leg suffered while retaining the title over Malakai Black at Double Or Nothing.

A new TNT Champion will be crowned via Ladder Match at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Konosuke Takeshita previously defeated Penta El Zero Miedo to qualify, while Wednesday's Dynamite saw current ROH World Champion Mark Briscoe beat Brian Cage to earn his spot.

AEW has not confirmed the number of Ladder Match participants for Forbidden Door. However, qualifying matches will take place on Rampage, Collision, and Dynamite over the next few weeks.

AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door 2024 is scheduled for Sunday, June 30 at the UBS Arena in Long Island, NY.
