AEW announces a "historic partnership," Tony Khan issues statement
AEW President Tony Khan has been making moves throughout the early months of 2024 to boost the profile of his promotion. All Elite Wrestling has now made a deal with the City of Arlington, TX, to host several major shows on the road to All In 2024.
AEW and the City of Arlington announced today that several episodes of Collision and ROH's Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view will be held at Esports Stadium every week from July 20 to August 17. The venue is the largest arena dedicated to esports competition in North America.
The two parties issued a joint statement, with Tony Khan touting the Jacksonville-based promotion's first visit to a dedicated esports facility:
“We are thrilled to partner with the City of Arlington for AEW’s first-ever events at Esports Stadium. This AEW summer series will add to the rich legacy of major professional wrestling events held in the great state of Texas and serve as the ultimate springboard for AEW: All In London on August 25 at Wembley Stadium,” said AEW CEO, General Manager and Head of Creative Tony Khan. “This partnership would not have been possible without the tireless support of Matt Wilson, Justin Grimsley, the Arlington Sports Commission and City of Arlington teams and of course, our incredibly passionate fanbase throughout Texas.”
The City of Arlington heaped praise on All Elite Wrestling and expressed excitement for the opportunity:
“We are honored to team with Tony Khan and All Elite Wrestling for this incredible opportunity,” said Arlington Sports Commission Executive Director Matt Wilson. “The ability to host TNT’s wildly popular AEW: Collision program is another milestone achievement to bring worldwide events to Arlington and shine a global weekly spotlight on our beautiful city.”
Tony Khan secures deal for new non-wrestling show with Warner Bros. Discovery
All Elite Wrestling is in a crucial contract year, but Tony Khan hasn't been able to come to terms with Warner Bros. Discovery on a new contract yet. However, the two are still working closely to develop new programming.
AEW recently announced a brand-new non-wrestling program, Meal and a Match, which is set to air on TBS's official YouTube channel. The show will be hosted by AEW's resident "wrestling aunts," Renee Paquette and RJ City.
Meal and a Match debuts this Friday, May 17, exclusively on YouTube. Its runtime is currently unknown, but the show's first guest will be an AEW fan favorite – Eddie Kingston.
