AEW boss Tony Khan ready to revive highly-acclaimed concept after 5 years
Tony Khan owns AEW and ROH, and with that comes significant resources in the world of professional wrestling. The promotions have working relationships with other organizations, and this could mean the return of a fan-favorite concept that we haven't seen in several years. Khan has just weighed in on the matter.
Khan launched All Elite Wrestling at the start of 2019, and 38 months later, he acquired Ring of Honor. The young promotion and the legendary organization have operated as sister promotions ever since, while maintaining working relationships with NJPW, CMLL, and Stardom, among others. Long before Khan got into the wrestling business, ROH and NJPW introduced their War of the Worlds concept. The inaugural event was held in 2014, but this turned into a series of events: two in 2015, three in 2016, seven in 2017, four in 2018, and four in 2019.
War of the Worlds is currently a trending topic on social media after Khan expressed interest in bringing the concept back. Speaking to The Rocker Morning Show, Khan was asked about his companies potentially linking up with NJPW for War of the Worlds.
"Yeah, I would love to do that. That’s absolutely something we’re interested in, and I think The War Of The Worlds concept, there’s definitely something to it, and we’ve built something really special now with Forbidden Door coming to North America, and now expanding into Europe, and also with AEW going over to New Japan to compete at Wrestle Dynasty... we’ve got a great collaboration with New Japan, I would love to expand it," Tony Khan said. Khan continued:
"You’re absolutely right, that a few years ago, we hadn’t started working together, and it’s kind of amazing just in the past few years how much AEW has been able to do in terms of collaborating with other international wrestling promotions like New Japan and [AAA] Lucha Libre in Mexico, and really growing the business overseas, and teaming up with the best international wrestling promotions, and putting on these great matches," Tony Khan said. Two major interpromotional events are already booked for 2025. NJPW's Wrestle Dynasty will take place on January 5 at the Tokyo Dome, featuring wrestlers from NJPW, AEW, ROH, CMLL, and Stardom. AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door IV is scheduled for August 24 in London at a venue to be announced.
Tony Khan and AEW star spoof movie poster
Satnam Singh stands at seven feet two inches and weighs 400 pounds. The former NBA player joined All Elite Wrestling in 2021. Tony Khan stands at around five feet eight inches tall and weighs in at around 160 pounds.
Twins was a hit comedy movie released in 1988. The buddy film featured Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito as unlikely fraternal twins who were separated at birth. Khan and Singh re-created the famous Twins movie poster while backstage at Dynamite, as seen below. Khan labeled this the 2024 version of Twins.
"Twins 2024 @hellosatnam#AEWDynamite #AEWCollisionGrand Slam!@TBSNetwork @tntdrama," Tony Khan wrote with the photo below.
Satnam currently holds the AAA World Tag Team Championship with Raj Dhesi (fka Jinder Mahal). His last televised All Elite match was the 16-man tag team bout at All In. Since then, he has defeated Colt Cabana in Dynamite dark matches for the past four weeks.
