AEW broke a major rule for controversial spot during Blood & Guts, according to Matt Hardy
AEW Dynamite Blood & Guts 2024 was a brutal affair. Its marquee match, the Blood and Guts match, was memorable as it saw Team AEW's Swerve Strickland, Mark Briscoe, Darby Allin, Max Caster, and Anthony Bowens taking on Team Elite's Matthew Jackson, Nicholas Jackson, Kazuchika Okada, Jack Perry, and Adam Page.
The showdown mentioned above lasted for a staggering 49 minutes and was won by Team AEW. It featured several gruesome spots, however, one spot, in particular, has become the topic of discussion across the internet. In the dying moments of the bout, Jack Perry was handcuffed to the cage wall, and Mark Briscoe hit him on his head with a chair. The sound from its impact was loud and several people were concerned about the TNT Champion's well-being.
Former All Elite Wrestling star Matt Hardy too spoke candidly about the situation on his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast. The former TNA World Heavyweight Champion explained that Tony Khan and the rest of the promotion have actively avoided such dangerous spots in the past, however, he is confused about how their management let the sequence happen.
"I guess it kind of depends on what perception AEW is trying to project because I know there has been like ... they've been very adamant about not doing unprotected chair shots in the past, and apparently this one was green-lit and cleared for whatever reason. Maybe because it was a big match or the drama, I don't know," said Hardy. [H/T Wrestling Inc.]
According to Bryan Alvarez AEW "shaved down" the chair that made contact with Jack Perry's head
Prominent wrestling journalist Bryan Alvarez recently revealed that the chair that Mark Briscoe used to hit Jack Perry was heavily modified to protect the latter.
“I can tell you this, it was one of the shaved-down chairs. I don’t know how shaved down that is. I don’t know how soft that is. It was a gimmicked chair. Still, they waffled that dude with that chair,” said Alvarez. [H/T: Ringside News]
Jack Perry will defend the TNT Championship against Darby Allin at All In 2024, which is scheduled to take place on August 25.
