AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash's booking decisions struggle to sustain ratings in the last month of 2024
AEW Dynamite Holiday Bash struggled to sustain ratings in the last month of 2024 which will be a concern for Tony Khan & co. This is after putting on a good show.
This week’s Dynamite was packed with action. Mercedes Mone took on Anna Jay and came out on top. Christian Cage and Nick Wayne defeated Hook and Katsuyori Shibata's team.
Hurt Syndicate’s Shelton Benjamin triumphed against The Beast Mortos in a hard-hitting match, while Darby Allin pulled off an upset by defeating Will Ospreay in the Continental Classic. Despite all that, the show managed to draw in 625,000 viewers, which was a slight increase from last week’s 594,000 viewers.
The show also received a 0.19 key rating in the 18-49 demographic, an increase from last week’s 0.17. Interestingly, this was also the most watched Dynamite show since the November 20th episode.
Tony Khan will be hoping that the new year will bring in a lot more viewers and that the numbers and ratings start to increase.
Dave Meltzer criticizes Ricochet’s AEW Dynamite segment
Ricochet had a hilarious backstage segment with the Hurt Syndicate on AEW Dynamite. It was so laughable that it drew the ire of wrestling analyst Dave Meltzer.
He was speaking on a recent edition of the Wrestling Observer Radio when he questioned why Ricochet would agree to do it. He said:
"I have no idea why he would ever want to do that segment, the Ricochet segment with The Hurt Business [Syndicate]. I have no idea why he would ever want to do that, ever, for any reason. This was like the worst week possible to do it because it's like ok those guys, Will Ospreay and Ricochet are gonna go out there, this guy comes off like the biggest geek in the world."
It will be interesting to see how Ricochet responds to next week’s AEW Dynamite and whether there is a difference in ratings.
