AEW Dynamite's ratings were "scary," says veteran journalist; points out worrying trend in Tony Khan's promotion
A veteran journalist has claimed that last week's AEW Dynamite TV ratings were scary. Dave Meltzer also pointed out that the lineup for the upcoming show on Wednesday may be a cause for concern for the company.
According to Wrestlenomics, last week, AEW Dynamite surprisingly recorded its lowest television ratings ever. The program garnered only 502,000 viewers, which was a huge drop from the previous week's number.
Wrestling Observer's Dave Meltzer recently said Dynamite's TV ratings were devastating last week. On the Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer also claimed that this week's lineup might not motivate viewers to watch the Wednesday night show.
"It was beyond devastating. It probably will not be the same this week, but that number was scary. I look at this [week's] lineup, and this lineup is okay, but it does nothing for me as far as making me want to watch the show. Will I enjoy the show when I watch it? Yes, I'm sure I will. But does this lineup make me wanna watch the show? No, it doesn't. Whatever 'normal' is, normal is getting smaller, so I don’t know." [H/T: WrestleTalk]
WWE Hall of Famer reacted to AEW Dynamite's disappointing ratings
WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray (fka Bubba Ray Dudley) also shared his thoughts on the record-low TV ratings of AEW Dynamite last week.
On X/Twitter, Ray said real fans do not celebrate the lows of a pro wrestling promotion.
"Actual wrestling fans do not celebrate the lows and hardships any wrestling company goes through."
All Elite Wrestling's next pay-per-view, Forbidden Door 2024, is inching closer. Hence, the Tony Khan-led creative team will likely aim to build hype around the June 30 event on this week's Dynamite.
