AEW Dynamite sees big viewership drop ahead of Grand Slam
The latest episode of AEW Dynamite saw a notable drop in viewership numbers ahead of Grand Slam 2024. The show aired from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Fans of the Tony Khan-led promotion are still engaged in conversations about the 2024 edition of All Out from earlier this month. AEW will soon be headed to New York City for the special event, Grand Slam 2024. This week's edition of Dynamite continued to pave the road headed to the upcoming show by advancing many of its ongoing storylines, featuring top stars such as Jon Moxley and the reformed BCC, Darby Allin, Will Ospreay, Ricochet, Mariah May, and more.
Despite presenting an action-packed card and an entertaining program building up to the Grand Slam, the September 18, 2024, episode of Dynamite witnessed a drop in viewership figures. It has been revealed that the Wednesday-night show drew 687,000 viewers, which marks a decline from the 716,000 viewers it drew a week prior. However, the episode generated an 18-49 demographic rating of 0.22, which improved from last week's figure of 0.21.
It was further reported that Dynamiteranked second on cable for the 18-49 demo in prime time, next only to Gutfeld! on Fox News.
Matches announced for AEW Grand Slam 2024
AEW will return to Arthur Ashe Stadium on September 25 for the fourth iteration of Grand Slam. A number of matches have been announced for the event, many of which will see championships being put on the line.
Dynamite: Grand Slam 2024 will present a Women's World Title match between Mariah May and Yuka Sakazaki, a World Tag Team Title match between The Young Bucks and the team of Will Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher, and a World Trios Title match pitting The BCC's Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta and PAC against an as-of-yet undecided team. Collision: Grand Slam - which will air on September 28 - will further witness an FTW Title bout between HOOK and Roderick Strong.
Dynamite: Grand Slam will stage a few more important matches in addition, namely Saraya vs. Jamie Hayter, Jon Moxley vs. Darby Allin for the latter's World Championship opportunity, and Nigel McGuinness going against AEW World Champion Bryan Danielson in a much-anticipated rematch years in the making.
It remains to be seen what Tony Khan and company have in store for All Elite Wrestling fans next week.
