AEW Dynamite set to go head-to-head with WWE
AEW Dynamite is slated to go head-to-head with WWE programming for the first time in months this upcoming October. The announcement was made through the Jacksonville-based promotion's official website.
AEW has proven itself as a viable competitor for WWE ever since its inception back in 2019. The Jacksonville-based promotion, with its amazing roster and great match quality, has undoubtedly pushed the Stamford-based promotion to bring its A-game. However, the two major promotions rarely go head-to-head with their weekly shows.
During the Wednesday night wars, AEW Dynamite constantly beat NXT in the ratings until the latter moved to Tuesdays. Dynamite has competed with NXT head-to-head a handful of times since then, and WWE pulled out all the stops to defeat its rival the last time this happened. Now, the two companies will go head-to-head again.
AEW recently announced that Dynamite: Title Tuesday will take place on October 8th, 2024 ahead of the WrestleDream pay-per-view. The show will go head-to-head with NXT, which will be airing on CW by that time. It will be interesting to see who clocks a bigger number in the ratings.
Tony Khan on how WWE might've helped AEW
Earlier this year, WWE signed a major media rights deal with Netflix, while AEW is yet to finalize its new deal with WBD. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio recently, Tony Khan admitted how the Stamford-based promotion getting a major deal helped their chances of getting a better contract as well:
“We need to keep doing what we’re doing because the numbers we have are numbers people in TV would kill to have. I really need to focus on doing good shows for AEW and not about what the competition is doing, and I think in this case our competition going out ahead of us and getting good media rights deals was a positive for us, and actually good for us because we have very good historical comps, and these comps are very favorable for us."
For now, the two major wrestling promotions continue to push each other to be better, and only time will tell who will win the next head-to-head battle.
