AEW gets some great news after lowest-rated Dynamite in history
AEW and its fans are celebrating some good news today. Dynamite recently drew its lowest viewership in history, but new information just revealed today is providing a bit of optimism as Tony Khan waits for a big announcement.
Last week's AEW Dynamite drew a record-low 502,000 average viewers, down from 681,000 the week before. The 18-49 key demographic rating for last week was 0.16, down from the previous week's 0.23 rating. One year before the episode, Dynamite was drawing 902,000 viewers with a 0.33 key demo rating, and two years before, the show was drawing 878,000 viewers with a 0.32 rating. The shocking numbers led to interesting internal reactions and surprising remarks from a longtime supporter.
Khan and his staff have been awaiting the highly-anticipated media rights extension with Warner Bros. Discovery. The network reportedly had a very telling reaction to last week's Dynamite ratings. However, there is some renewed hope after Saturday's taped edition of Collision drew 429,000 viewers, which was barely down from last week's 431,000 viewers.
Programming Insider adds that Saturday's Collision drew a key demographic rating of 0.14, up from the previous week's 0.13 key demo rating.
Collision on TNT ranked #5 on the Cable Top 150 for Saturday night. The College World Series on ESPN topped the list with 2.186 million viewers and a 0.49 key demo rating. Copa America Group Stage on FS1 drew 854,000 viewers with a 0.33 key demo rating for the #2 spot. Copa Tonight on FS1 was next with 0.479 million viewers and a 0.18 key demo rating, while the #4 spot went to Copa America 2024 on TUDN with 0.447 million viewers and a 0.18 key demo rating.
Saturday's Collision episode was taped two days before from the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The show opened with Hook, Samoa Joe, and Katsuyori Shibata defeating The Premier Athletes, while the main event saw Will Ospreay retain the International Championship over Brian Cage.
Some of the others in action were Chris Jericho and Big Bill, The House of Black, Toni Storm and Mariah May, The Patriarchy, and Continental Champion Kazuchika Okada, who defeated Ultimo Guerrero in an Eliminator match.
