AEW manager confesses to plotting attack on current champion
An AEW manager recently admitted that he was plotting against a top champion in the Tony Khan-led promotion. The manager being discussed here is Don Callis. He had conspired against reigning International Champion Will Ospreay last week.
The Aerial Assassin was a part of The Don Callis Family when he was still associated with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and had not yet signed with AEW. He was portrayed as a heel in the Jacksonville-based promotion and was a part of The Don Callis Family for over a year. However, he turned babyface after officially becoming All Elite.
Despite Will Ospreay wanting to be portrayed as a fan-favorite, Don Callis interfered in many matches and forced him to take the easy way to win contests. Earlier in July 2024, he asked Callis to free him from the faction and the latter accepted it. However, they were still associated due to Kyle Fletcher, who also happens to be Will's best friend.
Kyle Fletcher and Ospreay teamed up at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in a losing effort against The Young Bucks. Last week, Will's International Championship was on the line against Ricochet when Konosuke Takeshita, who is a member of The Don Callis Family, attacked the champion.
During Dynamite: Title Tuesday, Ospreay confronted Callis and asked him if he conspired behind his back and told Takeshita to attack him. Don confirmed these allegations against him and it was followed by a brief brawl.
It will be interesting to see who walks out as champion at the AEW WrestleDream 2024 Pay-Per-View, where Will Ospreay, Ricochet, and Konosuke Takeshita will compete in a Three-way match for the International Championship.
