AEW original undergoes neck surgery; will be out of action indefinitely
An AEW original has recently undergone neck surgery and may be out of action indefinitely. The star in question is Trent Beretta.
Trent has been part of All Elite Wrestling since its foundational year. Alongside Chuck Taylor and Orange Cassidy, he was part of the fan-favorite faction, Best Friends. However, since turning on his stablemates and retiring Taylor from in-ring competition earlier this year, Beretta has joined the ranks of The Don Callis Family and is presently one of the most despised heels of AEW.
The 37-year-old star last wrestled Orange Cassidy at Double or Nothing 2024, where he lost to the former AEW International Champion. He has been absent from All Elite programming since being struck from behind with a wrench by the Freshly Squeezed star on Collision last month. It was reported that the bout that saw Cassidy lay out Beretta was intended to write the latter off TV as he had supposedly been struggling with injuries since Double or Nothing.
Taking to X/Twitter now, Beretta posted a picture of himself in a medical facility and revealed that he had undergone neck surgery. He disclosed that he had to have two screws from his previous neck fusion surgery (presumably the one he had in 2021) switched out.
"quick little american neck surgery. turns out I wrestled so had that two of the screws from my neck fusion broke. very cool. very tough. screws have been replaced. next I will be doing revenge."
Trent Beretta last appeared on AEW Collision in July
The July 13, 2024 edition of Collision featured a tag team bout pitting ROH World Tag Team Champions Mike Bennett and Matt Taven against Orange Cassidy and Kyle O'Reilly of the newly founded babyface faction, The Conglomeration.
The closing sequence was a chaotic affair, featuring interference from Roderick Strong, Tomohiro Ishii, and Trent Beretta, who attacked OC outside the ring.
Eventually, The Kingdom delivered a piledriver on O'Reilly, who Taven would pin for the victory.
After the match, Trent went after The Violent Artist. Still, while Bennett and Taven prevented Beretta from continuing the assault on O'Reilly, a vengeful Cassidy destroyed him from behind with a wrench, incapacitating him completely.
It remains to be seen when Trent Beretta will return to action in AEW.
The Sportskeeda community wishes the star a speedy and complete recovery.
