AEW President Tony Khan reacts to Toni Storm claiming she has retired from wrestling (Exclusive)
Tony Khan has addressed Toni Storm's recent comments, where she said she was hanging up her wrestling boots for good amid her AEW absence. Khan stated that the news was exaggerated and that Storm had a healthy future in wrestling.
Toni Storm hasn't been seen in All Elite Wrestling since All In 2024, where she lost her AEW Women's Championship to friend-turned-foe Mariah May. Though she has wrestled outside the company since then, primarily in Japan and Mexico, her absence has her fans concerned. Storm dropped a bombshell in an interview recently, claiming she was done with wrestling.
Tony Khan has now addressed those comments in the recent Media Call ahead of Full Gear 2024. Sportskeeda Wrestling's Arunava Ghoshal posed the question about Storm's future, to which Khan responded by saying her comments were "greatly exaggerated" and that she was here to stay in wrestling.
What did AEW star Toni Storm say exactly?
Mere days ahead of Full Gear 2024, Storm chatted with SBNation, where she explained that she was unable to cope with her recent failures in and out of AEW. The former Women's Champion mentioned that Tony Khan's promotion was fine without her and claimed that fans would never hear from her ever again:
“I’m not used to being a loser. I’ve failed at everything. I lost in AEW, I lost in Japan, I lost in Mexico. This is the last you’ll hear from me again. Enjoy Mariah May as your champion. You can all enjoy that. AEW is just fine without me. Everything is going well for AEW. They don’t need Toni Storm,” she said.
Many fans quickly began to predict that Toni Storm's comments were purely kayfabe and that she was bound to return soon. Considering there's a lot to explore in her storyline with Mariah May, there's little doubt Storm could be back in the coming weeks to reignite her feud with the AEW Women's Champion.
