AEW's Adam Cole reveals potentially nixed plan: "Could have happened had I not been injured"

Former WWE NXT Champion, Adam Cole disclosed some possible nixed creative plans prior to his injury last year. The potential plans were related to him being in the title picture.

Last year, Adam Cole was involved in a storyline with the AEW World Champion at the time, MJF. While many fans were wondering whether Cole would eventually dethrone Max, Cole suffered an ankle injury at Dynamite: Grand Slam 2023. The injury forced him to be out of action for over a year.

Meanwhile, the former NXT Champion admitted that he was not sure if he was going to become the AEW World Champion before his injury. Speaking on the Stick to Wrestling podcast, Cole stated the following:

“In the world of professional wrestling, there are constantly different ideas being thrown around or changes constantly. Do I know for sure that I was going to be in line to becoming the AEW World Champion? I’m not totally sure. That’s certainly where it seemed like we were going."

Cole further said that he could've become champion had he not sustained the injury:

"That’s certainly the direction I think, very possibly, could have happened had I not been injured, which really did add to the mental anguish of the entire process. There are constant roadblocks thrown in our way all the time. We have to adapt and pivot. I still have a lot of my wrestling career left, so I certainly hope the AEW World Title is in my future in the future.” [H/T Wrestling Headlines]

Adam Cole made his in-ring return this past Wednesday

This past Wednesday on AEW Dynamite, Adam Cole made his in-ring return after more than a year. Cole defeated Buddy Matthews in a hard-fought match. After the match, Malakai Black also showed up to confront Cole, and their match was made official for next week's Dynamite.

Henceforth, only time will tell what Tony Khan has in store for Adam Cole amid his in-ring return as he is currently feuding with MJF.
