"AEW's Batista" did not succeed for a simple reason, explains Bill Apter (Exclusive)
Hall of Fame journalist Bill Apter recently spoke about how AEW books its talent. He also claimed that the promotion's creative department failed to capitalize on an up-and-coming star's potential.
The star in question is none other than Wardlow. He is often compared to WWE legend Batista because of his impressive physique and explosive in-ring style. Despite having considerable momentum after his feud with MJF, Mr. Mayhem seemingly didn't receive ample opportunities to become a main event talent. He was inserted into the TNT Title scene, but he abruptly soon lost his push.
Wardlow's booking has invited much criticism from fans and veterans alike. On this week's episode of Sportskeeda Wrestling's UnSKripted, Bill Apter expressed his frustration with how the 36-year-old had lost his star power in AEW. He added that The Wardog might have immensely benefited from having a ringside manager.
"Like I said he was gonna be AEW's Batista (...) And they needed to give him a talker. They needed a manager to be a talker for him because his voice doesn't match his body, his look." [27:38 onwards]
For now, fans will have to stay tuned to see what is next for Wardlow. Will he ever jump ship to WWE? Only time will tell.
